Panel and Paint courses in Sydney?

Does anyone know where I can do a course of panel and paint for cars?
I've had a look at the local college and they don't have anything other than a welding course which I think I'll take. Runs 2 hours for 8 weeks or 2 Saturdays.
But I can't find anything at Tafe other than the Panel and Paint lead in course for apprenticeships which runs for 400+ hours.
I may consider doing that if the college course doesn't run.

I'd like to learn how to repair panels and pre for paint, even painting my own car.
I mean I can read a book and muck around at home but I'd rather get in there in a class and muck around that way and then come home with confidence and work on my car. I'd rather do it right the first time you know.

Anyway thought I'd throw the question out there and see if any other VW fan has done a course they could recommend.
In the mean time is there any good books I can read to get some prior knowledge before attending a course?

Thanks.

Find some old text books by DONALD WAITE ( i hope spelling is correct) in the Car/motoring section (629 is the number/section to look for) I learnt a lot from these when I first started playing with cars

And yeah, I wouldn't mind doing a course or two... suggestions?

tafe nsw run panel courses - I think it's called a post journeyman course....the down side is that places are limited, I gave up trying to get on one in the evenings, mostly trade only.....though local community courses might be the go. Let me know if you get on one! I'd love to.

TAFE NSW replied to mail queries about a panel and paint course. Thought I'd share it with everyone. I haven't had time to call the numbers yet but intend to on Monday or Tuesday depending on work.
If anyone finds anything out let me know. Thanks.

It is currently not available however, they are advertising a "Vintage Repair Skills - Panel and Paint" course at Glendale (Hunter Institute). If you would like further information about this course you can contact the Automotive Faculty on (02) 4979 1612.

There are other similar short courses run at St George, North Sydney and Granville. It would be best to contact us at the TAFE PLUS Enquiry Service on 1300 131 499 for further assistance with your inquiry.

Hi, I have done a few night courses at TAFE st george. They are excellent. The panelbeating/panel fabrication one I did is called "vehicle restoration" and the other one is called "Spraypainting for vehicle restorers. The course is 3 hrs 6pm-9pm once a week for 9 weeks. Cost is about $238 for the panelbeating one and $270 for the paint one.

North Sydney Tafe do a vehicle restoration and panel beating course, 3 hours on tuesday or wednesday nights, for 6 months. next sign up will be for the januray or february start.

costs around $600

It's a bloody good course, I did it last year, 6 months only scratches the surface though!
