Fireproof balaclavas are a requirement of all FIA sanctioned international events.
Those guys know the rules.
What i wonder is why they are making an example of SBR and not any others. Hmmmmm!

Im a dyed in the wool blue oval fan but those blasted justHOLDENtogethers are simply too consistent and reliable on the day that matters most. Skaife was up there the whole day. Not right at the front mind you, but close enough.
They just waited for the guns to fall off the track (which they did) and pick up the peices...........
Thats why they win there. I hate that!

Ya just cant run 2 minutes 08 up there lap after lap..............................

However, I cheered for team Dodo and Richards/Whincup!

However, Bathurst is but a single round of a championship. Thats what really matters. Skaif may have won the battle but hell loose the war!

what about lowndes partner first its too hot in the cabin
then its too cold wish he would make up his mind & how
lucky is lowndes after that wheel decided to hitch a lift.
reminds me of the time crew threw water on a drivers windscreen
as he flew past :thumb shattered windscreen.

Tonights news showed the view from Lowndes in car camera. Scarry stuff, wheel was bouncing left and he went right to try to dodge it. The only thing that stopped the wheel ending up in the cabin was the Larry bar. If he had copped it on the drivers side instead he would have been toast. GO TEAM RED!

No idea.... there are some peculiar inconsistencies in the way v8's are governed and the way the rules are applied. Sometimes i cant figure it out how one team cops a fine/penalty/loss of points etc and you know they are not the only team doing it....

What the hell is Ambrose doing without a balaclava anyway - any of the guys without are stupid! The reason Ambrose was caught was the in-car camera caught a peek at his neck, and the commentators commented on it - a few laps later he was pinged! Its like the 3rd unpire in league listening to the telecast and mimiking the opinions of the vegetables commentating! They should have checked every single driver when they pitted and changed, and if they didnt they should have to take a penalty too!

Good race though!

It was a great race this year. Lots of action. Why Murphy wasn't pinged I don't know why. From the overhead you can see him lose speed, Ambrose comes around him, then Murphy pulls out wide and hits Ambrose the first time....Ambrose then is nearly full car length in front, and then finally gets turned around. It's funny how when they got out of the cars, that Murphy was the agressor. Usually the agressor is the one trying to cover up their own mistake. I would have loved to have seen Seton get there - or any blue oval. Seton will get there one year.

The rule on corner altercations used to be fairly simple. The inside car must be at least level or in front of the outside car's "B" pillar to think about claiming racing room.
Made it nice and simple for the stewards. Unload a dude by hitting him in the arse end, even if you were faster, you loose!

However, a small "racing room" clause has crept in, similar to the yacht racings "bouy room" where you are both going for the corner (bouy) but need to leave some room inside for the inside boat even if you can call right of way.
Now this is fine when boats dont have brakes and is a gentlemans kind of rule. No point turning into the bouy claiming right of way and sinking your boat!

However, cars have brakes and this fool law makes it nigh on impossible to police/prosecute.

You find most of these corner incidents are simply put down to "racing incidents" now where otherwise there would be clearly one at fault.
It seems all you have to do is stick your car nose inside the outside dude who already has the line, ease off the brakes, go bang and scream "racing room" and get away with tripping over the front car.Usually, the following car gets away as the front car being on the limit of adhesion only needs a gentle bump to unload it. The inside car just bounces off, usually with little or no damage, wobble a bit, and blithely motors on.

This is precisely what Murphy is squarking about. The rule is there to be exploited and exploit it he should/will. If there was no rule to cover him, he would still be licking Ambroses ear.

It makes NO difference that Ambrose was faster or had the line or not, Murph just had to stick his nose in there, unload Ambrose, and when he fronts up to the judiciary later on, just wail "racing room" and the stewards simply shrug their shoulders and let him out with a "racing incident" stamped on the report.
About the only way a following driver can be charged with unloading his adversary is to run into him in the freakin pits!
This is a classic example of the kitchen table operation of the entire motorsport governing body that allows such preposterous rule clauses to be introduced in the first place. It renders the stewards impotent when adjudicating on all but the most blatantly clumsy and deliberate examples of unloading the enemy in a corner.

Witness the horrifying crashes of McClean (Porsche) and Richards (Holden V8) at Qld Raceway recently. Both of those dudes were "unloaded" by following drivers, well AFTER they had both been overtaken. Both Richards and McClean had the speed and the line yet these other 2 bozos tripped them up on the fucking exit of the corner.
"Racing room, racing room" came the beating replies from both offending camps, (and rightly so), as under the older, simpler rules they would have been crucified by the stewards...........
Ok, both these crashes would have been relatively minor had they happened at almost ANY other quick corner in the world but the fact remains that they were well and truly beaten at the time and argued the point right to the end, protected by some soft-cock clause that is almost laughable.

Murphs first mistake was to get into turn 2 a bit hot and sledge wide, giving Ambrose just the room he needed and get by.
Murphy very clumsily got into the side of Ambrose for a bit of doorhandle rubbing fun and games which was totally unneccessary, but Ambrose rightly kept the boot in and was well past the point of no return ("B pillar") he was rightly entitled to close the door and maintain the racing line.
But Murph was not going to let Ambrose get away with it that easy and stuck the nose of his car into the rear quarter panel of Ambroses car.
I bet Murphs thoughts would have almost audibly be screaming "racing room-racing room", over and over again and laughing hysterically as Ambrose went ballistic up, and perrilously colse to over the barrier!

The saddest part of this entire shemozzle was the following teams cars getting into each other. The amount of damage should keep the teams busy for the next 2 weeks! If some of the minor teams show up at the next race in bog and primer, I would not be surprised.

Murphs strategy got ruined when his car got crunched into the wall initially and then caught up in the resulting fracas! Sucker, got what he deserved!
Shame tho as Murphy can really drive and would have had a good shot at the title.
I dont like the red army, but by christ some of them can drive and IMHO Murphy is at the top of the heap.

The balaclava incident is another preposterous fuckup. Balaclavas are mandatory at any INTERNATIONAL permitted events. Bathurst is an international permitted event. Tough luck, the rules are the rule despite what agreement they thought they had.
But it servers to highlight the inconsitencies of the rule makers AND upholders.
Ambrose was right to scream about "half the field not wearing one" Ill bet he was right too. No wonder Ingall came in quickly and pissed off from the garage.
They should have checked each and every one of the drivers coming in next pit and penalised the lot of them. Not just SBR.

I used to watch Bathurst all the time but since they got rrid of the different classes and models from different manufacturers, it doesn't excite me anymore. Caught the highlights on the news and that was it. Big shame cause I used to like watching it all day, now it is just which Commodore or Falcon will last the distance to claim the flag. I am glad it means something to you guys though but for me it has lost it.

I tend to agree Yogie - Its still a spectacle but i miss the old mixed fields. The 2L boys really shot themselves in the foot there - tried to muscle the V8's out and ended up cutting their own throats - well that was my 'from a distance' interpretation anyway! Is there even a 2L series in Australia anymore?

No need to. Hes simply exploiting them and standing proudly in front of them.
If they are there then use them to your advantage. I reckon Ambrose would have done the same and a whole other jag of "A" teams as well.
Its the very rules themselve that get up my nose, that make it almost acceptable to unload an adversary!

Makes for great TV and debate tho!!!

they (being the commentators) said there was a 'gentlemans agreement' between officials and drivers that said yes the balaclavas are uncomfortable and we wont enforce rules if you're not wearing one. i didn't believe it when i heard it - mainly because of insurance - but if half the field not wearing one, then either half the field are dipshits or the agreement exists and the officials have something going on inside. the fact that only sbr was persued about the clavas also raises eyebrows.
