King Edward Park Hill Climb

There is a link to some pics i took of Saturdays racing at the bottom of my post.

Hard luck goes to Ben Durie and Grant Cook, another dead CV saw them out on the last run.

Both John and Nathan competed well, as did Heath and his wife.

And Pete Mcleod,
mate i have to say the straight line speed of that spyder is just awsome

Yeah, what a top day put on by the MG Car Club of Newcastle, the VWs were out in force and displayed their usual "fight above their weight" racing, lots of close tussles and no major mishaps. I must admit the first time I came into the "pinch" after the short straight I nearly sh...t myself!:o
If I could do only a couple of events next year then this would be one of them along with the Bathurst round, both spectacular, and no matter how well you did, you'd finish the day feeling satisfied.:beer

All the VW's running were Beetles and all competed in Improved Production 3J 1601-2000cc and performed well. The placings are as follows.

Dont quote me on the times/positions from heath back, as Im not too sure. They could have changed over the last run. I was a little pre occupied with my main competition for the championship - which was steve in the dato.

1. Nathan ABBOTT - VW Beetle - 42.1
2. Steve BRYDIE - Datson 1200 - 42.3
3. Ben DURIE - VW Beetle - 42.5
4. Heath CAMPBELL - VW Beetle - 42.6
5. Paul BOLARD - Datson 1600 - 42.7
6. Grant COOK - VW Beetle - 43.3
7. Christine CAMPBELL VW Beetle - 43.9

I hope that settles your thoughts....... So Craig whats you plans for next year??

Both Craig and Greg were working unfortunately, as there would have been 8 Beetles running if they did run. Greg was in Thailand doing something electrical while Craig was at some conference promoting a new impotence drug.

Yes I did manage to wrap up the 3J championship which made me a veeerrry happy person. .. .. .. The competition through out the whole year was very close, not only with Greg but a whole heap of other competitors in various vehicles. There were 6 different winners (for 3J 1601-2000cc class) over the nine events and the championship came down to the last stage/run and a little over 2 tenths of a second.

It was a fantastic year of motor sport......... Bring on next year..

So are you saying Craig couldn't get it up?

Newcastle isn't that far from Sydney.

I heard he had performance problems.

Could be something to do with the new cam.

Jak, you sure jumped on that one.

But then again, who could resist a discussion like this? Not me.

CYA CT

Congratulations Nathan. That's an impressive effort from both the driver and the mechanic.:thumb

Sweeeeet job - if only you could have held onto the throttle just a bit longer into the pinch.......... case of Crownies would have been nice.

and to think all from an engine with a 25,000km warranty.

Make you want to weep

lol... yep,Craig's first 1916 built in 1991 is still out there somewhere. It was sold at about 100,000km in 1994 and the 'new' owner was still kicking its arse about three years ago... I've heard of complete brand-new cars giving up the ghost in less time

No Im not. I was thinking about updating heads etc, but I cant see the point in making changes to a package that has proved to be very reliable and competitive. Having now competed at all the events, that in itself is an improvement from this year.
