Cheers....Now I have to figure out how I can keep it looking like this!

See that little yellow'ish paper on the windscreen near the 1975 rego label?

Thats the original 'defect notice' from 1975!

Gotta love it!

Shoulda kept some old manky wheels on there to complete the picture.

Rats dont really stay a rat once you have put some nice rims on them.
They look too outta place.imo

Hey Guns,
I do like it....just think that leaving old rims on there sorta completes the picture.

Its like having a chromed up show car with shitty old wheels.Just doesnt quite look right.

Not having a go at humpty, just expressing my opinion.
So good on ya Humpty,as its another cool vw on the road.

Everybody has their own slight difference's dont forget.

Hi Simon

She looks great, and I love the wheels.
Got myself a 64 ragtop last wheek in Perth, and a 62 beetle in really good condition.
The 62 have been in a shed since 87.
I will send you some pictures.
Getting your old car ready for an 1/8th mile dragrace this weekend, in Wongan. She is realy fast.:no:going to smoke some Holdens and Fords.

Same one Stevie!
When I sold the green bug to Hermann, I kept a few bits!
Some stuff you just don't let go....

Know what I mean?

Well done Hermann on your finds....You totally amaze me how you have found those cars...Ive been living here all my life (apart from travel) and it took me 20 years to find a Rag...you've not even been here one year and you have a great collection in the making...Fan-bloody-tastic! So when we going for a drive!

As for the rims and the 'shiny' factor....I like the fact that under my car it is all new and built right...My cars are raced, so there is no way in hell that any scrutineer would let one of those crappy rats on the track...just not safe!...I built this car in 3 weeks...Start to finish....Its not rego'd yet, but when I get it done, the tech will see that I have upgraded everything...New 4 wheel disc brakes, new shocks, bushes, steering box, swaybar, bearings, lines, master cylinder...the whole box and dice....I like the crusty Rats that are being built...But I for one want my car to actually go hard, stop hard and look hard(er)....I have only had these rims for a month, and I would like to 'age' them, but as yet I haven't figured how to do it successfully...

Mines not the only Rat with shiny bits...Look at Frenzin's 58....That car is hard as nails...And he's got chromed BRM's!

Rat does not have to me crap....Stock rims are not my gig...Now if someone out there can give me some pukka BRM's Id be happy!

Boris?

rag rat rod

Well, First you need to wack a coat of Ferroguard over that thing to keep those spots under control. No Air, no worse.

Secondly... Buy a fan belt, it makes the alt spin around.

Thirdly...Those wheels! Did you pull them off a Hillman Hunter!

Fourtherdly... it looks Ken brilliant. I'd be so jealous if my rat rod oval with Ford I beam wasn't finished.

Cheers guys...glad you all like it....Can't wait to get it done and on the road...

The engine has to come out again soon, to install the fuel system, ignition bits and the front engine bay seal....And the fan belt! Then I have to finish the side engine bay access covers, the traction aids and engine bay wiring....The I have to finish off the disc brake conversion, wack in the new shocks and I think I'll stick on some drop spindles.

Dont know if I'll run those front seats, and I have to do something about the headliner and sunroof trim.... And I have to rebuild the door locks and window regulators.

I have some new deluxe window rubber...Not sure if I should fit them...It would be nice to have a water tight car!...Then I have to fix 2 small rust holes, get a wheel alignment and time for rego.....

Just a few things to do!

And Schnellbug....The wheels...They are EMPI RADAR replicas... And as for Ferroguard....I like the concept of the stuff, but from what I can tell...It changes the colour of the rust to a light grey....Sorta defeats the purpose of a rat....Thanks for the tip though...

Has anyone out there actually used the stuff? Are you happy with the 'look' of it?

Ferroguard

Hi Simon,
Ferroguard puts a low sheen seal over the metal, a dull oily finish, but not sticky like fisholene. It will keep your rat as is, it's a sealer not a rust convertor. Ideal for surface "patina".
If you want to age your Radars, lend them to me for the weekend...

Thinkin I will get the rims blasted back to the natural finish and leave them to the weather!
Might have to look closer at the Ferroguard.....

Thank for the tip!
And thanks for offer to 'age' my rims for me.....But I think Ill pass!!!:duh
