Quote: | this project started
out as a pile of early body sections, with nothing much to join them together, no powerplant or chassis, just a general idea of what i wanted at the
end!
i bought this off ebay first- its a cowl, dash, A-pillars and screen brow from a '49 split oval. the a pillars were bolloxed, particularly around the
demister vents. good job id be cutting half a foot out of them i was rather pissed the glovebox and dash panel trims shown went 'missing' even
though i was assured they were included. robbing c#*%. i also bought a rear screen clip, inner and outer skins, but the vents were also rotted out.
i figured i needed something to attach these 2 sections together so a bit of trading around netted me this '63-'64 shell in exchange for shortening
the chassis that was under it. at first glance it looks pretty good, especially as it was sandblasted, but the work done on it was truly terrible, the
new channels were held in more by the seam sealer than the weld!!
but, it served the purpose i needed it for perfectly- to use as a kind of jig to locate all the other panels i was using. currently the only panels
left off it are half the firewall, most of the rear 1/4s not including the arches, a couple of bits of roof gutter, and the front 1/4s and A-pillars
(and the 1/4s will be being replaced soon!)
why a pre-64?
because as i cut sections out and threw them away, i could recycle bits of the roof into the roof chop, as you need donor sections from another car to
chop a bug, and i needed them to be 'fat pillar' to match the early roof bits i had.
