Bonnet
One of the big differences between the older styles and newer ones is that the area that the VW emblem sits on is not raised on the Oval bonnets. You
can see it on most touch ups that people have had their bonnet replaced with a later one because the bonnet is one of the first items to get really
bent out of shape.
Anyone else for other differences???

Yes apart from the raised area where the VW sign sits, there is also the Wolfsburg Crest area. Ovals had a crest just above the bonnet handle. It was
simplified a couple of times over the years, and dropped altogether in 1963.
Otherwise the basic stamping is the same.
The hinges were redesigned in 1962 - before that the bonnet was held open by a folding strut. Later hinges incorporated a spring-load to keep the
bonnet open.

They're not very common, espescially because they get bent by only having a hinge on one side, plus people try to shut them while the latch is
locked on. Does anyone know what year they went from the flat emblem mount to the raised one?
Ooh, suits you sir!

It depends on the condition.
How much do you want for it and what condition is it in.

An Oval bonnet must have the trim chrome strip holes.
NON trim bonnets were only on STANDARD models that came out from around 1962 or so through to about 1966
An Oval bonnet has flat area under VW badge. not raised.

From memory the reinforcing braces underneath are different too. Especially where the hinge goes on. Could be wrong though. Still oval or no oval if
it's a straight early bonnet someone will love you for it eventually.

Hi
The scallops, depressions, what ever call them are more shallow on the earlier bonnets.
