Window winder/handle

Howdy. I own a '71 1600 Superbug and I'm having an issue with the window winder handle. When I wind the window up it gets to about half way and it sounds/feels like the interlocking teeth are worn smoothish and the handle just starts to spin. The thing is, once I physically grab the window glass itself and pull it up a little way the handle engages again and I'm able to wind the window up again. As it gets right to the top though it does it again. This is quite frustrating. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? If it is the teeth within the handle itself (or something else that needs to be replaced) can anyone suggest somewhere in the Newcastle area to get VW parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
