Subaru EJ20T - Cold cranking ignition advance
Hi,
Can anyone confirm the cold cranking ignition advance for a subaru ej20T?
I'm currently having problems where I'm getting massive kick back when attempting starting my car. The current advance I think is 7 degrees...
Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

Symptoms of too much advance....is it worse when hot?
I had this problem AFTER I paid $$ to have mine professionally tuned. The tuner had set the timing to 27 degrees at idle.
Factory timing at idle is 18 degrees + or - 10( eg Factory management will adjust depending on temp etc).
I use EMS so yours may be a little different, but I have set mine a little lower at 17 degrees so it idles low (900 rpm) when hot.(also use Air Idle
valve control)
Then to help it idle when cold I use the Temperature compensated Ignition advance adjustments and add 20% Timing from 0-40 degrees C, which equates to
a touch over 19 degrees advance. I found if I gave it anymore timing than about 20 degrees it would kick back on cranking....especially when hot. The
only thing I have to be concious of is if I start flogging it under 40 degrees C it will be adding more timing under boost.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Paul.

Cheers Paul....I will have a review of what mine is now set at. Had a bit of a play and did essentially what you've suggested. I appreciate your
response.
