EJ20 Throttle Body 180° Bend
Hi Guys,
Great site! 
Been lurking for a while.
Hellbus (or others) In your conversion you have a 180º bend between the inlet manifold and the throttle body.
Did you make this or buy? Please could you give details of either.

You could make one using mandrel bent tube and 1/4 plate but I doubt you would save much by the time you welded it, surfaced the flanges and supplied
gaskets.

Hi
What about reversing you intake manifold? Also rather than do a 180, what about a 90 so the TB is pointing straight up.

You can buy the toroid section used to make the adaper at most exhaust shops. If your fabrcation skills are ok, you could make one yourself, as

It is pretty much a given that the Custom Off Road unit WILL fit, WILL work and has no inherent tricks that I could see. Why reinvent the wheel if you
don't have to?

True the COR units are good, but some people just like to do things themselves if they can.1303Steve was asking about pointing his straight up which

Thanks for the replies guys
I saw it on one of your photos and thought "that'll save loadsa grief" ie won't have to make up a new alternator bracket, extend wiring etc.
I'm in the UK so buying one over there and getting it shipped might not be reasonable cost wise.
You guys do some fantastic stuff - Keep it up :thumb

I have a 2 litre Scooby Imp Sport lump waiting to have a new home sitting in my garage
Helbus - love your throttle mod. I used to have the Type 4 2 litre. Valve guide snapped and goosed the head, other head had a receeding valve seat.
Almost as cheap to do a conversion - bigger smiles though

Hey if the wife can do a 1/4 mile drag in 17.83 sec at 75mph with a stock EJ22, it was worth it, including the fuel economy and ease of start.

Hi
No need to reinvent the wheel, but you can always improve on a wheel. The COR one looks a bit thugly and sits very high. My point about turning it
only 90 degrees is that it would keep its profile much lower.
I made the exhaust for my turbo WBX it was no big deal, just went down the road and bought some mandrel bends or a exhaust donut and got the local
profile cutting guy to make the flanges and a bit of cutting and welding and I was done.

Reversing the manifold has been done, but it also involves relocating the alternator and making a longer throttle cable.
Since, in a kombi, you have a lot of space above the engine, that seems to be a good place for the filter. Reversing the manifold might have the
filter hanging behind the rear of the engine.
I also like the convenient and elegant throttle cable hookup in Helbus. Very clean, that.
90 degree bend? Might be good, but be careful that you have clearance between the filter and the firewall. Also keep in mind that the engine moves
about a bit in operation, so you want a generous amount of clearance between the engine and accessories and the bodywork.
