Buggy Pan swap

I've got a LWB Buggy, it's got a K&L S/A pan.
It was suggested that I swap the whole pan for a later BJ IRS one.

How does this affect Rego?
Wouldn't this mean that it has to be recomplianced?

Options are you could convert original pan to irs and change bulkhead to bj one. or you could swap numbers on pans (I didn't just say that)

If you.... ahhh... um... somehow retain your old chassis number there will be no change in rego status

OK then, where's a good source?
I've been looking around a bit, but don't really want to separate a good body just to get a good pan.

Any ideas?

i got an IRS BJ S/A pan with a crappy body, but would want a buggy for it... lol Haha

But don't worry mate, put in a Want To Buy post on here with what u want in the title, a few capital letters, smilies and exclamation marks for attention, and u should be able to get an offer of something sweet. Cheaper than converting everything... just buy the whole pan.

I would keep the K+L front end because you will have more travel. Just convert the rear to IRS.

May I tactfully suggest that if you have to ask how, you won't be able to DIY. A pan swap is far easier.

And I don't think the LP pan has any more travel than ball-joint in standard configuratin

Thanks for that.
Wouldn't be DIYing anyway, just for my own understanding.

It sounds like a pan swap is the way to go.

Cheers.

swap the pan, most people never notice the difference in front end travel between KP and BJ unless they are offroad racing, and the BJ is much more tunable for street and dirt work. Also, swingaxle rear shock mounts need work to clear IRS arms, this is a pain too.

Have a look at "Baja Bugs and Buggies" by Jeff Hibbard, there is a lot of good info in that book.
