Baja Exhaust?
So where do you buy a Baja Exhaust in Australia?
I have to bolt on a stock standard exhaust for the blue slip but after that I want to go the Twin Cannons road. The Four - One dosent fuss me and
it's too quiet and hangs out the back too far.
Can some one recommend Offroad Exhaust stockists for Type1 1500/1600 please.
If I have no luck or they are overpriced i'll got the custom path using the stock headers and pipes shaped from my current cannons.

dont worry, those glasspak hotdogs start making heaps of noise real quick. so much noise that you may be tempted to, like others, hack them off and
weld on some proper noise muffling for you own sanity.

get some hotdog cannons, cut the hot dogs off and weld a couple of 2" turbo mufflers on. This sounds great.
We did this on my friends Baja above. We got the turbo mufflers for free by digging in the bins of exhaust shops (they let you do it if you ask). Even
found the chrome tips in the bin.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the help and advice.
My stock muffler arrived last Friday from Sydney. I have the muffler but no actual pipes. Mabey I should have been more specific I guess.
I'm thinking of going dual cannons again after the blue slip but having the removable inserts were they can be muffled or straight through. Simple
remove the allen bolt and take out the centre. Will try to find a picture of them.
Those look great Wes. I think I remember seeing that pic before. They fit very nicely.
Thanks again

Has anyone got experience with this brand?
Last time I bought a aftermarket exhaust for my motorbike it was great, for about two weeks and rattled to bits in a year.

on this topic, if say a set of extractors were slightly dinted, only slightly, would that make em totally buggered in regards to performance?

by the way, how would u free off a set of extractors that are sealed shut together (via rust), but have no rust holes in em... just hell of alot of
surface?
I tried penatrating fluids like wd40, soaking, trying to bash em off (hence SLIGHT) dints... i don't wanna kill em, and they still seem Ok.
no comment bout the hotdogs.. lol, ones a bit mashed...

had this same problem with my hotdogs but i kinked one of the pipes tried everything to get them off. then the next week they just pulled them apart.
i found twisting them was the best way after you break all the rust off but it was still a long job. i used a couple of tins of wd40 on mine aswell
keep tring you will get them eventualy. just dont twist to hard thats how mine got kinked. as for performance it would have to make a slight
difference because pipes are made that diamiter for a reason but i had them on my 1600 for a while and didnt notice it much if any and mine was pretty
badly kinked.

Mine weren't on my old bug, but you never know. Has the car got the demister channels? If so they might ask you about that. Best to be prepared.

Yeah - I'm getting two 12V hairdryers to run under the back seat up through the heater chaannels. I don't have and don't want any heater hoses.
I'm not a fan of them and would much rather prefer to kept the holes covered over as they currenly are.
The guy doing the Blueslip is quite nice, but quiet so it's hard to tell at this stage if he is a real stickler and full on by the book. He's is
more than aware that once the blue slip is complete the car will be changed almost immeadiately to how I want it.
The current pipes will have to be oxy'd off the heads. They have been on a very, very long time. Ever since I've had it and they wouldn't come off
when I first got the car 6 years ago. The time has come.

If you have two rusted together parts that WD will not loosen, try using eucalyptus oil. It is the best penetrating oil that you will ever use.

too late....
I cut em up yesterday, cause one hotdog has a phat dint in it... and a tube was all chewed up from when i was trying to get it off... So I cut the
tube shorter , and finally cut the exhaust off (I shortened the tube after the extractors combine into 1 tube, so not before), this is just in the
back of the hotdog, and plan to reweld em together. Just hoping the 100 amp MIG be able to put enough metal between the dog and the pipes to hold up
the weight... they slot into each other a bit still, that will help.

Well the exhaust is done. I cost a pretty penny and I embarrised to say exactly how much needles to say it was a good job and thats what I asked for.
It's four into two into one exiting on the left of the engine and wraping in front over the transaxle. It has a lovely open thump at idle and now
lacks the "crack crack crack" of the open hotdogs.
I haven't driven it yet and havn't had it at full song so there is still more to learn about the new set up. The biggest benifit I can see will be
the inflatable jack can now get some use at stockton and when offroading.
The demister has been hooked back up but it is not running over heater channels just straight through to the screen from the engine. This should be
fine as there will be the heat from the tin ware and will at least be working better than not hooked up before.

Oh yeah - I'm on the road. It's raining and I didn't even notice. Hasn't rained here for months and I don't care - I'm legal and roadworthy and
allowed to drive the Baja on seal.
Thank you to all who have provided advice, comment, support and been the devils advocate. I really appreciate your help and being a part of this
forum. It is so good to be back on the road again I can't express it in words.
I can't write to much because we (the boys and I) have ducked home for a quick bite to eat, a drink and a 10 / 15 minute rest while we hea dback out
to thank those who have helped out around town here.
I'll post some pics soon and mabey even some video soon to show you all how it looks and sounds. Tha 4 into 2 in to 1 advice was fantastic. Cannons
look great but the torque from the stock motor with this exhast and a bigger carb (32 PICT 2) is amazing. I absolutely love the supercharger sound
I'm getting in the 1700 - 2100rpm range.
Cheers all and thanks again.

Nice
am workin on mine now !
BajaChris, to separate pipes joined by rust get 2 hammers and tap in a circular motion hammers opposite eachother so pipe does not get unround and
this tapping frees rust as the hammerring expands the malleable meta the more u hammer. occasionally add oil or crc etc so that aids clearing ,
cleaning and lubricates .....thus enhancing extraction of the inner pipe from le outer ha ha

Pics to come - Have test run urban like around town all this evening to and from friends I have been visiting and thanking for their help.
Tomorrow I have some minor maintenance to do before a good run to and from Newcastle which is about 4 1/2 hours away. Should sort out or show me what
probs are on board. Would like to stay here for the weekend close to home but the wife want me to join her on the coast for the day.
Hasn't missed a beat all night. The tuning is perfect, is not getting too hot and has turned head everywhere it's gone. One guy tripped over turning
his head around to follow it going past. Must be a VW fan perhaps.
