OK!
I had a shocker yesterday and nearly gave up dragracing got a 12.96@112.89
with everything going wrong on the run. Sun in eyes, missed 2nd 3 times...very
hot day, tired...list goes on.

Second qualifier was a clean launch off the start but when it landed, it had a
wheel-wobble so bad that the dizzy cap flew off...I thought i broke the front end,
but there was nothing broken!? They towed me off the track ind I started it up
and drove back to the pits AOK.

By this stage I had had enough. Andrew was at the track to spur me on, so I got
under the car and ended up removing some of the neg camber from the RHF wheel.
But by this time it was late and could see no point in continuing, So went home in a huff.

Special thanks to Andrew for sticking around and helping.

Sunday was a new day, and the front wheel angle didn't look so bad now in the light of day.
Perhaps it was just because it was a new day?
So with the camber change, I now had 20mm toe out! So I re adjused that,
Backed off the clutch wing nut one turn,
Put another 2 degrees timing in(from 28, to 30 degrees total).

Won first round with 11.811@112.87(very hot day) and car was arrow straight and smooth,
but a little slow.

Second round I went back to 28 degrees and shifted at 7800 :11.764@114.71 Nice and smooth...but still slow.

Car weiged 1770lbs (about 805kg)

More home work to do on the tune up, but the "air" was 4000ft!

Pagey was the top VW qualifier with a 12.10@109.95 and also ran 12.12 and 12.19 in the first round.

Rod(48IDA) ran a 12.57 @ 108.99 but bogged first round and let me through to the second round.

Morgie ran a best of 12.45&108.62 I think, and 107+ on most runs with muff and NON power pulley.
That is the quietest 48IDA car I have ever seen..and so smooth!

Wally went 10.47 in the turbo "Bugger"
Andrew went about 3or4 rounds in the 12.2's in the 13B Manx.
Aaron in the 20D rotary Kombi had some CV probs but had it fixed for his next qualifiers, but don't know how he went on sunday...12.41@116

I will let the other guys tell their tales in more detail, but it was a long hot week end,
and quite a few good and interesting goals achieved by all the Volksies that ran.

Thanks to all the Volksy dudes that dropped by to help and encourage us(and Cols hot dogs..supoib!)

Thanks for the update Dave - I was hanging to hear how you all went! Although not necessarily the best runs for everyone who competed, it was good to see no major dramas/accidents/breakages!

Congrats to all of you for getting out there and representing the volks-fraternity....bring on warwick!!

MY driving effort could only be described as "Up the S--T"
You would have thought the start line was made of mud the number of times I bogged it, stalled it ,bogged it.
Hopefully Warwick will give me plenty of start line practice.

Thanks for the info Dave,
Sorry you guys had a crappy day, that's racing hey.
Hopefully people get how hard it really is (even though you make it look easy) to get it all right on the day.
I'm sure that next time will be a good one.

Sometimes you just wonder why you bother...............

But then you get the urge?

Good stuff guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear it all worked out for Sunday Dave

If it wasn't for that thing called a wedding anniversary, I would've come back out Sunday.
I suggested we could have a combined anniversary and racing day....she suggested it might be my last anniversary.....:D

Congrats to all the other volksy racers as well....might I just add what a top bunch of blokes they are...:tu:

Hey Andrew.

Yes, that is a salute.

To that damn, F#8KING ball of fire called the Sun, that was in my eyes.

Hey Dude, have you been given the all-clear to come to Warwick?
Thanks for your help last Saturday, by the way.

I am all but ready to go for Warwick...yehah!!

absolutely Dave....i'm there...have even given up a wedding to go.

Been hanging out for this for ages.
And helping you out is a small price to pay for all the knowledge I've picked up talking to you guys, not to mention I enjoy it....much more sedate than crewing for supercharged outlaws.

That is a sweet pic of your launch Dave!

Does anyone know how many inches Morgan/Macca's brown bug front beam is narrowed (is it steel or another aluminium?)?

cheers

I know that the beam is steel and that it has been narrowed not much,
(they can chime in witrh the details(2" total?),
but the main thing is the Vintage VeeDub brakes,
and those hard-to-get Erco Zero offset wheels.

Looks pretty good hay?!

Looks damn good! Now for the next question which I am sure has been asked before (but I don't remember the answer) - I undestand these zero offset ercos aren't still available....does that mean ebay, cal-look forum and thesamba are the best places to look to acquire a set?

Sorry to sidetrack this thread.
