What do you prefer, towel rails or not

just experimenting with the appearance:
Wondered what the concensus is,
-
Would you leave towel Rail "bumper" on or go with the other?

@ bumperbar debate

:sandrine
When I bought my bug it came with an old towel rack but wasn't fitted on it.
I hated the look of it.
Been driving around for a while with no bumper bar on ...quite a different look too.
Now just bought a shiny single bar to be fitted on the weekend....
then it will be a real looker.

I like the stock look, with the over-riders. Aussie-made VWs had US-spec bumpers from 1962-67, so that's good enough for me. Single-blades look fine on earlier VWs, but to me they look weird on later cars. British-spec mid '60s Beetles, with single-blade euro bumpers and small uprights, look like they're missing something.

Same dilemma! At the moment Im leaning towards keeping them, but I have a 63 that came with them. With Oval taillights thought I would have a single blade, but either way it will look cool! Good luck!

Don't rear towel rails block your rear oval lights?

I think it is more about the look you are going with with ya Dub..

See JIMGOW for example, had heaps of accessories and shit hanging of it, so the more chrome and bits, the better, so they suited the car.

Similar story with the Notch as far as accessories, but the towel rail saga isn't a factor for the Notch unless I wanna pay a fortune.. However, I am about to go from a Type 3 'blade' to adding NOS overriders to the bumper, so Glen, I guess it depends on the look you're after!!

oh as far as Tail rail visibility, this is down at bumper height. It only gets better as you get higher.
At an angle one may get obscurred, but not from normal following driver height.

I like what is original to the car. Blades look cool, but only if you have the bumperguards. A bare assed balde bumper look stupid.

You can guess what my vote was?

I'm with boozer!
Go the whole nudge bar front and caged engine rear!
You only need towel rails when you get wet. Bajas don't get wet - they cut wakes.

Very true Bronze. I agree completely except for one point. nudge bars are too wussey looking, as soon as i can i'm going for something more robust like a truck bull bar!:D
