early 1.8 into bay questions
I know a lot of you have been asked this or simmilar questions so i beg forgiveness now but i want to fit a 1.8 scooby into my 76 kombi... why the
early(82 model) engine u ask i have been given a low k's good runner for free:P
now my questions are... what sort of price is this going to cost and rad solutions, i know custom off road do a wicked under body set up but i will
be honest i am kinda skint right now and i need to do this as cheap as i can with out doing a half arsed job.I know no one can give a firm cost as it
all depends on who i get stuff from etc but i rough idea would be great.
Where or who is the best to talk to about the adaptor plate?
Also my major concern is the wiring, my current engine is the 2lt injection, the engine is a carbie so no injection and computers to worry about.
but who or where would i get the info as to what wires would go where
i know i am a pain but any help would be fantastic...

mmm, type 4 2l injected VS carbie 1.8 subie. I never thought I'd say it, but I think it actually might be worth staying with the aircooler. Are you
sure the subie is significantly more powerful, coz I'm not.
Put the subie in a beetle or a buggy.

the subie wins hands down on the power as the con rod came through the side of the case on the 2lt !!! hence i am planing to convert, maybe. its all
about costs...if i can find a new 2lt and its going to work out cheaper then i would stay aircooled...

Steff,
Many subaru converts here use the newer EJ22, hence the somewhat slower responses on EA81 (which is probably what you have as it is the older 1.8,
newer is EA82 and EJ18).
However, apart from adaptor and wiring, you share radiator, return fuel line, electric pump, etc issues with the EJ22 guys.
Am doing an EA81 conversion to a bug and can answer a few of your questions.
Adaptor source: kennedyeng.com or post here (which is what I did) for a used one, some people want to upgrade to Ej22 and will sell you their kit.
Wiring: see here http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=57308 where I have tried to document ea81 wiring, there other info in
many topics here but you will have to search
