I'm sure there are rules.... there seems to be rules for everything these days...
the generic term in NSW used to be, if the car can drive over a coke can, its legal....??
How accurate that is I don't know.???
plus i've never tried to drive over a coke can..... lol..
but I think many cars are lower than that...
and what about parts that hang down??
I have an extra sump on My beetle so that is the lowest part....
no one has ever checked the height....
but I'm sure if the tyres look like they don't fit under the guards..... that could mean trouble....
Most police in NSW don't seem to worry about old cars including beetles....
hopefully, You will find the its the same in QLD....
Somone on here will be able to tell You..

I dont think they will look too much at the rest of the car, just the vin and varify you have changed the color as you say you have.
Most states have minimum 100mm ground clearance from the lowest part of the car. Ususally the front end, the rear jack points or a deep sump if
fitted.
I am not sure on the QLD version though.
In Vic our 100mm was measured at curb weight, which is a tank of fuel and 2 passengers in the vehicle.
The vehicle must also retain 70% of its original suspension travel.. again not sure on the QLD version of these laws.
All info is on our Vicroads website, so maybe QLD Transport have theirs up for you to check.

here you go... from QLD transport website
Lowering or raising of vehicles
The road clearance of a fully laden vehicle must not be
less than 100mm measured at any part of the vehicle
other than the wheel rim or brake backing plates.
(This does not apply where a lesser clearance has been
specified by the manufacturer.)
When lowering or raising a vehicle body (front or rear),
the following additional restrictions are based on the
manufacturer's dimensions for the standard unmodified
vehicle while unladen:
• The ride height measured between the rubber bump
stop and the corresponding metal stop may be reduced
by no more than one third.
• The rebound travel measured between the rubber
rebound stop and the corresponding metal stop
(or the extension of the shock absorber for vehicles
without a rebound stop) may be reduced by no
more than one third.
6 7
• Coil springs are to remain in locating seats on full
suspension droop without forcibly being removed.
In addition, the normal relationship between the front
and rear suspension heights must not be unduly affected.
Replacement springs (shorter or taller) must have the
same or greater load capacity as the original springs.
Suspension coil springs must not be shortened by cutting
or heating. Leaf spring suspensions must not be raised
by the use of extended shackles, adjustable metal plates
or by placing the leaf springs to the opposite side of the
axle. If lowering blocks are used, they must be either
steel or aluminium.
Airbag or air pressurised shock absorber helper springs
may be fitted in addition to the original suspension.
However, replacing some or all of the suspension system
with an air or hydraulic suspension requires specific
approval.

Yeah i asked about colour change in the QLD RTA the other day ! They said so long as it's currently registered and they can see the required vin
number etc it'll be fine. Colour chaneg is easy as. I asked as I am just changing the colour of my manx!.
So you shouldn't have any probs.

in qld, when i went, didnt matter what my mechanic had wirtten...guy at rta looked over it...
well, for edith they didn't even bother sticking their head out the door...blue belle went over the pit but, having said that, guy at rta when i
went in with blue beele was a fan of bettle, knew his stuff...and didnt worry to much about anything... in fact, I often think he only checked her
out because he was 'checking her out'
edith...well...i doubt anyone was prepared to stand near her and say they were the officer allowing it to be registered.....check avatar...u'll
udnerstand...lol
cheers

LOL thats just character
went for my pink slip today.... ride height fine at 67mm but eyebrows are a dangerous protrusion so as long as i remove them for the inspection and
put them back on when i get home its :thumb:thumb
one of my other cars passed afew months back even tho the brakes on the front left wheel barely work
as long as it gives a reading above a set amount they dont care
