Scouts won at Sandown!!

Yesterday I went with the 1st Yinnar Scouts to Sandown for the 'Formula Bike' competition, and they won!!! :D

The competition involves teams of ten, riding two at a time around the Sandown race track. Each pair can do as many laps as they want (ours did 2-4 laps each time out) before coming into the pits for changeover. The rules stipulate that the members of each pair must not pass through the checkpoint more than 2 minutes apart.

This year the event ran for 7 and a half hours, although in past years it has been held over 18 hours. Our team of Scouts won with 377 kms covered, beating the entire field apart from one Venturer team!!! (with 390 kms) What really surprised me was that we did very little preparation - the kids were just extremely keen and went hard all day!! :thumb:thumb:thumb

I was very surprised (and proud) to see our team of 11-14 year olds beat older teams of Venturers, Rovers AND Leaders!!! :D:D:D

Oh yeah, and the relevance to this forum is that I spoke to a couple of fellow kombi owners about this forum - I'm hoping we'll have another couple of members in the near future! :thumb

Hoping too, but our Scouts don't seem to have any idea how much fun it will be with 15,000 other Scouts there, nor how much work it is to raise $1,100 each to cover the costs. Hopefully some motivation will kick in soon! :bounce:bounce:bounce

congrats that is an impressive result. i'm not a leader but my dad was an ASL for nearly 16 years. plus i went from cubs to rovers. tell your scouts that they really should try and get to the jamboree as they are heaps of fun. (though in reality ventures are MUCH MUCH more fun... add mischivous grin here)
