SOLD [FS - WA] 1972 Beetle - price drop to $400
SOLD
Seller's Name – Lee
Suburb / Post Code – Kallaroo
Item Description including Brand – 1972 VW Beetle
Condition – Below
Item Cost - Offers over $500
I've owned the car since 1998. It has been off the road and sitting in storage for the last 3 1/2 years. Currently unregistered.
The car was resprayed shortly before I bought it, whilst not a show winner it does present well.
1600 motor was rebuilt in 1999/2000 (can't remeber exactly) and included new heads and a heap of suspension work up front (new bushes, tie rod ends
etc). I will attempt to find receipts for the work done over the years, but at a guess it's in the vicinity of around $5000.
Features worth noting are a detailed engine bay, stand off hinges, stainless steel firewall, clarion cd head unit and clarion 6x9s and an excellent
set of hankook tyres that have hardly any miles put on them. Also had a reconditioned generator put on not long before the car was taken off the
road.
It has rust in the usual spots around the lower front window, passenger a pilar and both c pillars behind the c pillar vents. Floor pan is rusty on
the drivers side near the accelerator pedal and also along the heater wire run on the passenger side. The photos should give a good indication of
where it's at. Also comes with a tin of burnt orange paint that was used to respray the exterior.
The door cards and back seat although not mounted do come with the car. There are no floor carpets.
Not willing to part out, must go as a whole. The bug was driven to the current location but I am unsure if she will still go. At a minimum it'll need
a battery and some fuel but considering it has sat for a while it's more than likely a bring your trailer job. I'm getting out the VW scene for the
time being and the time has come to move the bug on.
I can be contacted on 0438 456 918. Serious enquiries only as the car is stored a fair way from home.
Cheers
L

Went hunting for the receipts last night, found quite a bit... most importantly I have the engine rebuild and the recon alternator receipts.
I have been asked why I took it off the road in 2003 - at the time I was a uni student and had another car... I could not afford to keep two cars
registered.
It was driven to it's current location. The air filter was only pulled off prior to the last drive, which was literally a 2 min drive to the current
storage location. The air filter was on it's last legs and rather than suck a disintergrating filter through the motor I decided to take it off for
the short drive to storage. The air filter deteriorated with age as I didn't really drive the beetle that much (not by choice!) after buying another
car in 2001.
The only issue that I know of with the motor other than the fact that it's stood for just over 2 years is a missing cap on the carby, causing it run
rough due to the leaner mixture. This happened at the dovw 2003, the 2nd last time I drove the car. It was not run long like this and was running fine
before this. As I don't know the exact name of the part I have circled it on the picture below.

Not at the moment
I can take a photo, it will have to wait until the weekend though as I can't get to it this week.
Also, price drop to $400. Seriously needs to go.

The bug is still for sale, I've had a few time wasters and been a little busy lately to deal with quokka buyers.
The engine turns over by hand. I haven't started it as it needs a battery. Was running fine prior to storage other than needing an air filter (taken
off just prior to storage) and the carby requiring a block off to stop it leaning out (as noted above). Gearbox has not had any work done on it since
I have owned it, but it worked fine and never popped out of gear. It was not the quietest box I have heard but nothing wrong with it as far as I can
tell. For the price I am asking don't expect perfection.
I've got quite a bit of paper work including registration papers and service repairs. I double checked all the numbers (vin/engine) with the
compliance plate and rego papers and everything lines up. Funnily enough after owning it for nearly 10 years I never checked until the other day.
I have no idea what it would take to get registered. At a minimum a good clean, air filter, service and rust repairs to the front pan halves would be
required. Other than that I guess it depends on the licensing centre.
I'll give it another week on here then it's going in the paper.
Cheers
L

The above update answers most your q's
It's a mcpherson strut front and swing axle rear
I'm not going to say the engine will be fine and will fire straight up with a new batt and fuel. It's been sitting for over two years. I turned it
over by hand for the first time since going into storage this week and other than what I have said above it drove fine for a 30 year old car. It's
priced accordingly.
I don't remember any problems with the clutch, but again... priced accordingly.
Cheers
