Tight Arse Turbo....new PB
There is a T&T on Wednesday the 27 June. At this stage Dave Butler and myself will be attending.
Would be a good opportunity to do some testing ready for Warwick or a tune for the dyno day.
If your interested in participating or just having a look come on out. Now the Winternats are finished I'm hoping it might be a bit quiet.

not yet...but I can tell you what it isn't.
Not the SU jet
Not the float bowl needle and seat
Not the plunger spring
Not the fuel pressure
Not the timing
Not the valve adjustment
Not a dirty carb (I don't think)
At the moment it has to be a carb issue but I have NFI what. Will investigate the carb further.

Just a bit more to add following my dismal showing at this T&T. Was all set to run hard with the new boost controller fitted and richer SU jet but it
all turned to shite even before I arrived.
Noticed when I gassed it after coming out of a servo that it started back firing. Thought as the weather was cooling off it might have been a bit cold
or even needed a bit of adjustment on the mixture. Drove to the track and it all went down hill from there.
Basically it was running so rich that it was backfiring and shooting a flame (which looked neat) out the exhaust. Decided not to run as I needed to
drive it home and couldn’t afford to break it.
On the way home it was down on power and by the time I got home it was like it was only running on 2 cyls. Assumed it was a fuel issue so pent the
next week moving the fuel press reg to get the pressure down and trying every combination of bits I had to stop it from running rich.
Ended up taking off the Sigma ignition and fitting the 009 to see if that would help. Then it wouldn’t even run and now won’t start. Noticed a
quantity of fuel siting in the carb and thought it was still getting too much fuel. Must have pulled the carb apart 4 times looking for problems.
It was then I realised the fuel was pooling because the turbo wasn’t spinning because the engine wouldn’t fire due to a lack of spark. So now
I’m chasing an ignition problem but have replaced the coil, dissy, rotor cap and button, high tension lead. Still no spark at the plugs although I
have some spark at the points.
Hopefully this weekend I can track it down. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I have had to hide my axe.
Frustrating after having no probs until now.

long shot but check your regulator (under rear seat) are the terminals rooted? I had an issue with my kadron/009/1641 that seemed to be running on
three or so cylinders. I hooked up my batter charger and fired her up again and I noticed that it seemed better. I cleaned up all the terminals and
replaced the ends and that seems to have got me sorted. As I said long shot but easy to check, if you return the car to the pre-shitting itself
configuration does it behave?

Sounds like a low voltage problem. Fouled plugs will cause the same problem.
What voltage have you got a the coil?

Plugs are what is recomended for a volksy but were set to sigma gap.
Have 12.5volts in to the coil and remains while cranking. 5 volts coming out.

put new stock plugs in and stock dissy in for a back to back one at a time.
A waste of time but this way you eliminate them as a problem. Sometimes it's the simplest thing that gets over looked and you waste a lot more time.
I would also check manifold gaskets.

here's some more info 'cause it's got me beat. I know the problem but can't find the cause.
Whatever it is, is destroying the capacitor. Have been through two which is part of the reason why I've been chasing my tail.
When I hit the starter I have a spark (via timing light) at my HT lead but not at the plug leads. (i've changed caps, rotors and the HT lead. This
problem first surfaced after I fitted the sigma dissy etc so it is something common with that and the 009 currently fitted.
Also when I hit the starter it cranks but won't try to fire until you turn the starter off. There is a short somewher but I don't know where.

The coil power wire is the original one??
Sometimes if the coil power is taken from the ign on fuse, not the starter switch, it cuts power while cranking over, and then sparks once you return
to the ON position...
if that makes any sense! sounds confusing.
Are you running compufire in it?? Maybe it says somewhere here I havent read the entire thread sorry..

Well it seems to be fixed thanks to Dangerous Dave Butler. Dave came up y'day and spent 4 hours helping me troubleshoot (I actually think it was the
other way round).
We changed every part of the ignition system and isolated all the wiring until the car was basically an engine stand with an external power supply.
But it still wouldn't start. Got to the stage where I heard Dave muttering something about aliens.
Anyhoo to cut a long story short we (Dave) worked out the only thing we hadn't changed were the plugs. We pulled them out and they were sooted up. We
cleaned them up and believe it or not it started first go although still backfired which was the original problem at the drags.
I've sinced replaced the wire from the batt to the regulator and fitted an additional earth strap, cleaned up some wiring and fitted new plugs and it
runs well and doesn't seem to backfire now.
The plugs have done less than 200 miles so who would have thought.
A special thanks to Dave for taking time out to offer his invaluable assistance. It's now safe to bring the axe back out.
