Type 3 gearbox with a 1916

I have the type 3 gearbox to go into my 67 beetle rebuild.. It is from an early Type 3..

Questions:

Will I get good highway speeds with the Type 3 Box..

If the answer is no, what is a best compromise.. I was thinking rebuild the box with a final (4th) gear as an overdrive gear..

Any other suggestions to maintain good low down torque but improve the top end speed?

I have a 2l Kombi Box in storage.. would this be a better option?

Thanks as always
Rob

Thanks

Apparantly the 2litre kombi boxes aren't that great.
The type 3 boxes are ok on the highway.. mine sits on 70mph happily all day.. but i often feel the top speed of my car is limited by the gearing rather than the power..
I would personally go for a single side plate gearbox from a late beetle, as they have a higher diff ratio (3.88) rather than the type 3's 4.12.
Unfortunately, these are really hard to find!!

4th gear is already an overdrive gear. The increased power and higher revs from the engine will give you faster highway speeds than a stock engine,easilly...
Fitting a 2L box would be a pain for no gain and higher revs than a type 3 box... A SSP box as mentioned above would also be good. Have you changed to IRS or are you still swinging?? If you have a swing axle then a 1500 box would be the go...HTH ???

You need to find a 3.88 diff ( hard to find ) which can be fitted to a early box with some fiddling like in my Orange smoooothie 65 this will use your early short swing axles as well
