beetle wiring looms
Does anyone know where I could get a wiring loom for my 56 beetle, and roughly how much? I was going to use my old one but looks a bit crusty and
wires are a bit stiff, lost their flexibility.I see wolfsburg west has them but would be LHD,

Vintage wiring harnesses http://www.vinwire.com.au/ have them on their website.
They are based in Bellingen NSW.

Probably best to make your own up...
colors wouldn't be correct though...
Most old cables are now contaminated and crappy....
If You can clean the ends of the wire
so they can be soldered, You can re use them....
Clean All connections so they are like new...
including the fuse box etc...
Not forgetting the gearbox earth lead
and battery leads....

You can still buy all the correct colors, sheaths and terminals to make your own loom...
depends how much time you have... definately easier to buy one.

I have actually been there to drop off our wiring loom for them to duplicate. Beetles are a modern car for them to work with although the 56 is OK.
They have the original wiring diagrams for lots of Australian cars. They bought them when dealerships and factories closed etc. They also have these
looms that wrap the wire in fabric like the factory did for some older cars. Ours was done in the more modern plastic covers and each has the correct
colour wire cover to make fitting a breeze.

Oldnslo-I used a LH drive one in my Oval and it was easy to adapt to RH drive.I used the wires from the original loom to extend to the dip
switch(these were in good nick).All the switches must be in the same position as all I had to modify behind the dash were the ones to the speedo.I
can't remember if I extended them back,or opened the loom to get them out,because I ran so many extra wires for all the additional stuff I have
fitted.The quality was top notch and everything fitted as it was supposed to.

Thanks NB turbo, Where did u get yours from? I have actually started to use the old one again, once I cleaned the wires and sleeving up with acetone
it didnt look too bad, some wires have damaged insulation but it looks like I can re join them and put heat shrink over them

WolfsburgWest.If it's only the ends that protrude from the sleeving that are a bit ratty-pull a loom from another 6 volt wreck, and strip it out to
get fresh wires of the same colour from inside the sleeving, and do a bit of cutting and joining and cover with some black heat shrink.
