Thanks for that bushed.
They seem to be a little hard to get, then That just might be
cause I havent been looking.
Probably wont go for the GTI gear.
I want to do some of own Mods.
It has a motor - its just that it has a big problem.....
Idler shaft worn out - losing oil pressure , all else good.
So really need a good block - may as well get whole motor.
-
Just realised.... OvalGlen may be needing a name change.
Wonder if I can keep stats?????

Most 1.6 motors are pretty tired by now.
How about a 1.8 from a Mk2 or 3 Golf. It will bolt straight in and give more power. And be 20 years newer.
What scirocco do you have?
http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au for
watercooled info and we`d love a pic of the rocco, is it a Mk1 or a MK2?
Call CamdenGTI for a cheap motor. 0423 051737.
Cheers

Thanks.
I do want a smaller motor...ummmmm , the last car the Oval
had the Big motor - all hotted up, real Ball Tear _ _.....
But I am a bit over that.
This may sound poor but I want to see how good economy I can get with it.I am into alternative fuels and stuff like that so it may end up with
Hydrogen Fuel supply:duh
-
The Scirocco used to go Realy great with the 1.6 and Twin
Dellorto's, when you see what Hydrogen can do with fuel,
I'll only get into more trouble with an 1800+
--------------------------------
I believe it is a Mk1, but I'll have to check info.
I dont think I have any pics.
Interesting history - this one was privately imported from South
Africa. Was in South Australia for many years. VolksPower [ I think] had it as there Advertising car for a while and My Bro
bought it off them.
Was Light Blue with Stripes all down the sides.
It has all these skirts and spoilers - also the under Hatch has Scirocco Sign...ooohh :blush
Its in pieces at the moment, was getting re-sprayed and didnt
finish.
I have to re-spray it - Trying to decide what Colour..........
I'm thinking one of the Modern Medium to Dark Blue colours
with that metal [ mica is it?] fleck stuff.
So I need to keep driving the Oval for just a little while longer.
I'll see if I can find Pic of similar one.
Cheers Glenn. |

Yeah its a mk1 , I cant remember the year , probably 79.
Its a TS.
With thanks To Mk1scirocco16V - I am using his pic
and have mocked up what it used to look like.
The wheels are different - but this colour rendition is pretty close.

Dammm there was a gen 2 GTI on
http://www.mercwreck.com.au/index.php
they were only parting the thing and wouldn't allow salvage and rescue.
Keep the steering and the propulsion seperate . Still a Kombi...
It's all good, until it's bad, i suppose

an 1800 will amost certainly get better economy than the 1600 because you wont have to rev it as hard If your after economy make sure youve got a 5
speed box
1900 audi motors and 2 litre 8 valve golf motors can be made to fit pretty easily
capacity wont effect reiability in watercooled cars
seat cordobas are also good engine donors

Thank you , every one.
Greedy , mate... after you try daily driving a car where everything is wearing
out - for 8 years, even though you love the car - some things have to improve.
I like your thinking zjm.
Does have the 5 speed. The only issue is that the previous 1600
had plenty of power - so it didnt need to rev hard any way.
- I know that the Much Newer 1800 will be more reliable and cost way less than
equivalent work on 1600 - so it is the better choice.
Glenn
