Anniversery Beetle?

Does anyone know of an anniversary 72 bug? A chap was trying to explain it to me. Apparently it has some sort of emblem or logo on the glovebox lid. Just curious as it is for sale but not sure if it is worth anymore than a standard 72 bug?

Cheers
Dave

yeah there the 15millionth bugs
they were just superbugs with some cheesy hubcaps and a few other bolt ons
not to many left around now judging by the amount of badges sold on ebay
72 was the first year VW starting putting fuller foam in the pillar cavities to dust proof the cab
classic f++k up on vws part...

The 1302S superbug had the 15 million medallion on the glovebox lid...
I've never been able to find out how many were sold in Australia....
The german made cars had extras added, depending on where they were sold..
I believe they were the ONLY special edition beetle sold in Australia....
Overseas they had the Jeans beetle, the GT beetle, the BAJA Beetle, Marathon Beetle, plus many more in the USA

I have seen a few of these 15 million beetles that were very rusted, and the glovebox and badge sold on,,,

I'm not sure whether I want one of those medallions on My glovebox...
You would also need the special solid bars either side of the medallion.

I can't see anything special about them...

Now if they had the leather steering wheel and leather gearlever boot plus fancy seats too...
well. now they would be special....

Marathon Beetles were also known as Championship Beetles and were produced to commemorate passing the Model T so would have come out only a few months after the 15 millionth edition. They were nice and also my very first VW. Light metallic blue, Lemmertz 10 spoke wheels and rubber inserts in the bumpers.Came out as a 1300 also a 1302s. I don't think any were exported to Oz though.Suprisingly didn't have a medallion or anything on the dash.

Hi

They did have carpets on the floor as well, You also got a special key ring and plastic sleeves over the end of the key. I found this key ring badge in a 1500 bug I wrecked.

i had on of these special editions a couple of months back. picked it up cheap, only because it was very tired looking and rusted. Cant be 100% it was an actual 15 millionth edition as the car had no paper work to prove it, just the medal on the glove box which could have been stuck on. Regret not keeping the medal when i sold the car, it looked to be the only thing on it that was in good condition.

Well, I've Never seen one of those Steve...
probably worth a lot more than the medal on the dash..
never seen one in a magazine etc...

Out of Germany came the Jeans beetle, the June Bug..etc
it looks like We didn't need any special editions in Australia.

and i've never seen or heard of an original beetle with metallic paint sold in Australia...
yet Wolfsburg used Metallic paint in the late 50s,60s & 70s
