wheels that have been in a fire?
Sorry if this is a Qu that's been asked a million times. feel free to send me a link with the answer.
I've been given a pair of rims that came off a car that was in a bushfire. They had a fair bit of rust/burnt paint on them but most of it seems to
come off ok with a grinder/wire brush or a flapper disc. People have told me stories about paint not going onto post-fire metal very well. Is this
true?
My plan so far is this; I've got some killrust rust converter that I was going to spray on and then apply primer and enamel over the top of that.
Will it work or is there some sort of special surface prep I need?

Kind of an uneven heat treatment applied to them. I'd be concerned about what's going on there too...

Pete,
I'd tend to agree with Craig and Matt - I suppose if you're just going to do a bit of low-end paddock bashing then, maybe OK, but anything serious
and I'd be questioning their viability as you don't know what the heat may have done to the metal. As for painting them, I woudn't have thought you
could expect much trouble providing they're prep-ed correctly.

i'm sure if u took it to a wheel shop and asked em to balance the rims, they would be able to see if they were buckled from the heat and put any
counterweights on it where its required.
Tis what i would do anyways.
