Fuel economy for T3.
Has anyone fitted a fuel flow meter to a T3, is it possible? Or is there a "best" cruising speed for economy. I've got an '85 T3, 1900, water
cooled and could use less fuel at current prices!

Used to get about 9l/100k when cruising at 90kmh
My 85 T3 manual was reasonably young in those days

If on the highway stay at 90
I dont do much on the highway.
All mine is short city trips. %kms here - 2kms there
Still do about 200kms per week
I get about 300kms to 50L
I believe mine is a 2.1L and its auto

14l/100kms is what I work on for the 2.1 auto: 426kms per tank.
Drives beautifully though

i thought i was getting 12-14 L/100km, but i recently had a little road trip, i drove 600kms, that cost me $100, so 100 into 600 goes 6 times, am i
getting $1 per 6km? that would mean at 1.60per liter i'm getting about 10k's per liter, or 10l/p100k's right???
if im doing the sums wrong please help. cheers jon

Is that in the Syncro?
Because if so i am getting about the same probably better, probably; I am pretty sure i am getting better fuel economy out of the Syncro than we didi
out of the Caravelle.
Keep the steering and the propulsion seperate . Still a Kombi...
It's all good, until it's bad, i suppose

I use to find that my T3 Syncro got it's best fuel economy figures when driven along narrow country roads where I was sitting on 80-90 klms, easy on
the throttle and the revs. However on the Hume Freeway at 110klms keeping up with the other traffic the fuel gauge would literally 'head south'
before my very eyes. Lucky to get 400klms out of a 70 litre tank especially with a hard northerly blowing. The difference and improvement in fuel
consumption was quite significant.

I have a '85 Caravelle that is on gas. The tank in mounted in the back below the left rear window and holds approx. 60 litres. The fuel economy
averages 6km/litre.

I have a 2.1 5 speed 90 model and get around 12.5l/100km around town. I take the M2 every day and travel out of peak hour so it's a pretty easy run,
however I sit on 100-105. I guess I should be sitting at 90 as well...

Would it be silly to say that tyre pressure and wear have much to do with fuel consumption? I've always checked my tyres after filling up and they
are Nankang 195/70/14, good tread, a little greasy in the wet, but who hammers their T3 in the rain anyway? until the T3 had issues, i was filling her
up with premium only, stopped using additives after consulting various "authorities" on that topic and the old girl was returning nearly 500 to the
tank, a little less around town. just out of curiousity, what's the co-efficient of drag on T3 tranporters? i need a good laugh right now.
How many is enough?

I Know its an old topic but...
I just got my 1989 Transporter converted to Gas and its great!! Getting about 16L per 100km, while petrol was 12L per 100km. So still a massive cost
saving!
Tis a 2.1L manual, trakka conversion, so a bit of extra weight.
If your interested in a gas conversion I highly recommend! My mechanic said it is utmost importance to sandwich plate the mixer just before the air
flow meter otherwise it will run badly on one of the fuels. I did that and mine is runs better than ever has before.
I'm sure lotsa places are good but if your in Melbourne Ultimate Gas Conversions did mine and has a lifetime warranty and good quality workmanship.

Cant wait for petrol prices to go back up!....

Hi
If your going gas, spend the extra and go the EFI gas route, will cost more but you will not loose any power, the mixer is blockage in the air intake
where the EFI LPG uses individual gas injectors.

Hmm from my conversion I have not experienced any significant loss of power on either gas or petro, and with the complete tune up they have done it
actually has more power than previously, but I would never claim to be an expert about air intake blockages...
Although the Gas injection is appealing, I'm not totally convinced on its benefits for the huge extra outlay...
