Bug 'safari' windscreen.
I have seen pics of bugs with safari type windscreens, opening outwards.
I want one. and i want one now. haha.
Does anyone know of a kit to buy? or is it custom made?
I just needa know before i go ripping into things, then realise i can buy all the framework.
Thanks in advance.

I believe it would be a one off thing...
Someone must have made them in the US back in the 60s..
they make non original pop out side windows in the UK..
holes are drilled in the glass..
Most cars in the UK in the 30s and 40s had pop out front windscreens.. You may be able to get an idea from there.
also the wiper blades need to go right down off the windscreen...
cheers

Give us a look at those pics too man. I'm keen to have a crack at replicating the photo kit.
Cept mine would be for the rear window.

I guess it would just be building a frame around the window, putting it on hinges, and modding the rubbers so it rests on them?
I might make a perspex windscreen and try it out.
pics are here...

Im willing to pay if its not too pricey.
I would even try making it myself, I just dont know how it seals, or if it even does seal?
But if you can make me one that opens 90 degrees, send me your price inc. rough estimate for shipping to melbourne.

I'd be interested as well but, would have to be the same style of frame and seals as the rear quarter bug pop-outs. They'd be fantastic on those hot
summer days just gotta watch out for the bugs (the insect ones I mean) I reckon $500 with glass would be reasonable...
I have seen that rear opening split window style safari as well many years ago and like it even more today! Could slide your board or skis straight in
the rear window. Why wait for some company in the USA or worse China to make them... Theres a market here for somebody with the skills. Who is going
to be the first in Australia to make them?
If it's not in a Vee Dub I'm not going!

i'm gonna give it a crack when i'm up to putting the windows in, but that won't be for a while. If if eva successfully accomplish it, i would take
advantage of the market :P.
it'd be style to the max..

hmm someone should reverse engineer that design and make a kit here :P
The only thing i don't like, and what i don't think the cops, nor any car inspector wouldn't like, is those rails for the hold down bolts. Its
dangerous! it doesn't fold in next to the window neatly like the kombi safari windows. it sticks out ready to stab in some poor suckers face or torso
if u have a front ender or brake to hard. Well i think it sticks out, cause by the design, the hold down bolt is not on the window itself, its on the
bug body, and the swivel is on the window.
Crazy!

I agree I was thinking exactly the same thing. They do not look safe at all! None of us want to have a serious or minor accident in our bug but, if we
were to be unfortunate I would'nt like one of those brackets sticking out of my skull
If it's not in a Vee Dub I'm not going!

I'd love to go shopping at that bug shop Chris!
Though I agree with you on the price. I guess it is for people who have done the restore and have a sack of cash left over. Maybe getting itchy tools
a few years after finishing their bug.

Prices are usually expensive for things that are less easier to source and still a novelty. I buy most of my parts from Classic Vee Dub supplies.
