 Automatic Transmission

Can anyone please tell me how common automatic transmissions are in the different vans and when the engine moved to the front? I'm thinking of
trying to use the van auto in a beetle or type 3. I'm in SA and can't afford to spend too much for the engine and trasmission.

I'm looking at all ideas right now. Anything anyone can suggest would be useful. The main problem is most beetle or type 3 auto gearboxes are too
old and no longer working

If you mean a semi auto, then they do have a clutch, but its activated by vacuum. The semi autos are a manual transmission with a torque convertor
