Front beam Material

Hi,
Do all VW beams use the same tube material? I have an already modiifed beam on the front of my buggy, I am going Coilover on the longer arms but the beam is a bit short. I can either cut another beam up to get the length or start with new tube steel. Chrome moly sounds good but welding this with disimmilar metal for spacers and towers sounds problematic? if starting from scratch has anyone just use some AS1163 material and made from scratch?
Cheers Dave

have you looked on some of the US sites? I'm on the offroad forum of Shoptalkforums. A lot of those guys are into that.
