Subi in to a ghia
Can anyone tell me if I can fit a non turbo subi engine in to a 72 ghia without having to cut in to the firewall? I don't mind cutting the engine
bay area but do not want to go in to the firewall.
Thanks
Yogie

Hi Yogie

Paul is doing this as we speek in Perth now , he has one of my adapter plates and fly wheels.
The motor is a STI 2ltr motor running a TD05 turbo with a custom built dragster kombi 2ltr box that I flew in from the USA for him. This machine is
going to kick some ass over her in wa with around the 300hp at the rears.
I dont think he is cutting the fire wall even with the turbo motor in the rear

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure about the room from front to back compared to a beetle. Side to side is lots better. It would be interesting to see
photos of what one looks like with an inverter if any one has some. Would also like to see the one you are talking about seagull if you can get some
pictures.
Does anyone know if the beetle kafer cup type bars for a beetle fit a ghia?
Cheers

I doubt very much if you can fit a turbo engine into a Ghia without cutting the firewall unless you did some serious re-working of the turbo setup and
induction system..
The EJ 22 with a CVD Invert Manifold will fit into a Ghia without cutting the firewall. You will have to cut the engine sealing tinware but that is
about it.
When I was orininally playing with the EJ 22 invert manifold I tried a few different angles and designs to get the best fit. Then I test fitted the
engine in everything I could find sitting around. One of those sitting around was a Ghia so I know it fits. In fact that Ghia is still sitting in my
backyard.
Anyway it clears in a beetle no stress and same with Ghia, but you do need to cut out the engine bay sealing tinware.
Here you can see it in a beetle, clears easy and fits under the stock engine lid without moving the transmission fwd at all.

Thanks for the photo Brad. Is the inverter an off the shelf product or do you get it made to order to suit your installation?

Invert Manifold is an off the shelf item sold by Custom Vee Dub - http://www.customveedub.com.au, it isn't on the website at the moment as Andrew is a slack ass.
Wes was the one posting the Ghia Pictures, Gold Coast VW Show last year maybe, there were some pics in the Manx Club Gallery - http://www.manxgallery.org under past events 2008

Thanks guys. I had seen the photos of the yellow one. While it looks great, it cuts in to the firewall in a big way which is want I want to avoid.
It does show the cutting required around the engine itself which is done very well and will be helpful for me if I go down the subi path. There are a
couple of other posts about the radiator that help heaps as well.
That yellow car installation is really tidy so that is why I wanted to see if anyone had any photos of the install with an inverted manifold to see if
it can look as good.
Cheers

I like the colour and the car, wonder how the A/C goes. Besides black I'm considering the new Suzuki yellow for my new car.

Steve glad you asked about the a/c setup cause I was about to as well. Cmon, you can pick something nicer than Suby Yellow!
Who owns this, can we get any details of how a/c is done as I would like to do in the Fasty.

Amazing
Thought of doing this to the replica but was pretty sure i'd fail the chassis torsion test with no roll cage a a glass body.
A rex struggles as it is to get the power down through 4 driving wheels with a beatifully balanced chassis. I cannot imagine what it would be like in
a ghia with all that weight hangin off the back.
Regardless, Very very Nice work

That orange one looks awesome. It still cuts the firewall but with the invertor, it would solve that problem. Very professional installation. Only
thing is, why does the orange one have only 1 filter on top of the engine and the yellow car have one on top and another on the side?

doesn't look twin turbo to me - only 1 intake/filter showing and turbo is much higher than the std twin turbo location.

I have a 74 ghia with a 2.2 engine. No cutting of the firewall. Just rotate the complete intake manifold. Search for pics under my name and you should
find.

both have one air filter.........you are mistaking the intercooler ontop of the yellow one for an air filter.........neither have the inverter, orange
just has air intake pipe to the turbo that looks a bit like one
looks like single turbo to me Joel?........no wonder youre staying NA (sissy)
