Me and the family are in Launceston at the moment to have a look at the Targa Tassie and see what its like in person -
Are there any other VeeDubbers down here for this that anyone knows of?
Will keep my eye out for the VWs competing and bring back some happy snaps for ya's.
Regards,
Luke

Man...wish I was there. My in-laws are at Kayena (just accross the Batman bridge that connect east and west Tamar) and last year they had cars running
part their house on one of the legs. One year I'll be there - and also enjoying a break from darwin humidity...

No guys, 4-14 degrees today, really cold!
Yeah is good! I hear people have their front fences knocked out all for the love of motorsport... and they dont even care!! cool...
Yes this is very different from Alice Springs much greener and a lot hillier to say the least.'
I will be trying to follow the route and stopping at at least a few of the recommended spectator points, as I think it will be a bit safer for the
wife and kids that way.
Look forward to bring youse back some awesome kodak moments.

Long way to be travelling T25turbo.
I'm now living in tassie and only 20 minutes from Elephant Pass, so hanging to travel up with my partner to see the action Thursday. He is a chef
by day (Diamond Island resort) and his hobby/passion is as a rally driver - but isnt competeing in this one. no where near enough time to consider
preparing for the race. Last time preparation for a race took us a solid 4 weeks just to get his car and navigator, recce etc sorted. Now we've
settled in an have long term contracts we'll be competeing in next years -WOOHHOOOOO!!
I know tomorrow we are meeting up with some of our friends who are racing, one of whom has been using our car for recce (evo9) just so Hurf can get in
and feed some of his fuel addiction... and catch up with friends from QLD, NT as well as VIC.
If u see his car (EVO 9...and it has HURF RACING written on the side) u know thats us. or his friend (who is actually competing - just not in hurfs
car...lol) so just wave. We're used to it now.
And yes.. I know...its not a VW.
cheers
Beb
dubless.
And who the helled parked the Mitsubishi "Prancer" under my
house???

I won't be there, my driver pulled the pin about 4 weeks ago as he couldn't get the 911 turbo for the price he wanted
Its a awesome event (event better from inside the car!!). My Favourite stage was Walborough pass on the east coast. Liek sidleing but faster.....
Allot of my mates are down there and running. Big wave for
Close/Reeves (911T)
Henry/Both (968)
Both/Johnsson (WRX)
Bergman/Seung-le (GTR)
Ford/Ford (Z06)
Garvie/Garvie (911) Tour group
Thats the main ones,
Speaking of ppl who have taken out fences in the prologue Garwood/Allen pulled out about 2 weeks ago after wining Targa Wrest Point (the lead up
event) as Garwood went to Monza to race... as you do!!
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

Guys... information I could have used yesterday!!!!!!
No haven't had a chance to check the AVD as have been driving large winnebago shaped object through many mountain passes and have been videoing all
abovesaid cars in various locations.
I think I saw the recce red evo 9 at windemere the night before when we were camped by the side of the road - on stage, saw an evo x lock up and hit
embankment - sounded bad and car was trailered away. also came up behind carnage and aftermath of the sideling - Porsche 914 all bent on trailer and
the green XU1 (sans windscreen) now sporting the appearance of a Slazenger P58 Golf Ball.
I have been waking up at 4:53 am each day with major schemings of how to get myself into a)motorsport in general and b) one day maybe Targa Tas -
would post it but I am sure the red wines I have had would probably take over - sadly the scheimings at this stage dont, cant involve VW's - just too
expensive to get the power/comfort/reliability that I would want for said events - dont throw rotten fruit, but the reality motoring ideals involve
either a EF/EL XR6/8 or a VS SS with a VE brake upgrade.(in whispered voice....will have to sell 2 volkswagens to do this.....) I just dont know if
thats interesting enough to get invited..... A VW could def get the invite, but a Falc or Comm - maybe - rookie class? I just dont know. 20-25K on top
- I will start saving and doing grassroots events in Alice(drags)to get skills up.... watch this space.... and MySpace, facebook - and You Tube as I
will be posting a heap of videos taken on prologue and at windemere plus tour stage at Scottsdale. dont know if you would be interested in penguin
tour at Bicheno?... I can post if you guys require......
will try and photobucket some general photos - but do not hold breath.......

VDers, I am back in Low Head now for a bit of R & R without driving. Have Hyundai Elantra hire car, so even though is soulless, is quite a decent
drive except for agri-engine. love the blue backlit dash and umpteen compartments inside.
Targa update - as you prob know, Tony Quinn in a 2008 GTR won the event - and Gentleman Jim crashed out! as did weeks in a Lambo that apparently hurt
quite a bit more than the pocket - he was in hospital for a period of time afterwards with a crook back.
Did not get to see the end due to family and holiday commitments and tiredness due to driving RV shaped object through many mountain passes. Hyundai
feels like a micro machine compared to that thing!
Will come back at some stage for another go whether it is as a spectator or in 5-10 years as a participant. Much scheming and planning to do until
then.
Hope youse checked out some photos at my photobucket site. I know I missed the only VW it was as if it was my destiny not to capture it. it was the
one that got away (R32 Mk4 190kw).

That blue beetle in your photo album looks like the perfect vehicle to build up for a Targa
Much more fun in a volksie ...and I don't think that the cost would be that much different to building up the falcon or whatever else. Keep the dream
alive anyhow.

Yes you are right. I should keep it and do the right thing.
There is nothing like the feeling of the turn in on the limit that a rear engine, rear drive, air cooled vw can provide.
I have lasted this long with VW why change now?
the latest is though trade in the subaru liberty and get a Beamer (for the familly hack - 323i 1999 about 20K). Hey at least its German and quality.
that or a s4 1999 but thats 30k. My plans change weekly so dont hold me to that. last week it was a 1995 Nissan r33 GTsT. PAss the ritalin please.
Oh and motorbikes.

Good to hear ... a volkswagen is a life long and somewhat twisted love affair ( no logic to be found most days )
