Need advice on 6-12 volt converter for stereo install
Hi Guys!
We are wanting to very discreetly install a stereo in our '60 bug.
Our issue is what type of 6-12V DC-DC step up converter we should use.
Has anyone used the JayCar step up for this Voltage? We havent tried it as concerned the 2amp output current is not enough to run the stereo and will
just blow. This is about the only one we have found readily available.
My hubby, a sparky, is considering trying a 24-12V DC-DC converter with 10amp output and wiring it backwards....anyone know if this could actually
work?
Thanks HEAPS for your thoughts!
Lis

Good grief!!! Just been reading on 6-12 volt conversions - not simple is it?!
Hubby says keep it 6V - wants to keep it authentic. Maybe i will just get a battery (that can be charged) and run a stereo off that - this way we can
easily remove the stereo if we ever want too and all will still be as it always was!

As an alternative what about a jump start boost pack under the left hand rear seat and charge as necessary(one of these little units run my
cooler/fridge for about 8 hours and they drain more than a stereo.I have a 6-12v converter at work but not sure what amperage it is or whether it
still works,i kept it for the same reason as you.
