Maybe custom side skirts like maybe carbon fibre also i saw once custom made carbon fibre version of the tinware. There is some ideas.

im wanting to make some fibre glass molds of the complete front and rear fender sections of a Karmann. Some idiot cut all 4 wheel arches of the one i
just bought and unless i make fiber glass ones to use as templates later when i want to fix them ill have to hold on to my other Ghia for measurements
when i badly want and need to to sell it (if that makes sense). Is it hard to do? Actually i also need a rear lid

Interior trim panels, a decent center console and a wiring cover.
I'm thinking mainly for racing use, so carbon fiber would be better than fiberglass (lighter, but mainly cos less flammable)

why stop at just the decklid, go the whole body
funnily enough they actually do that in the UK for bug floor pans,
when the bugs rot out and fail MOT wizard or someone made a fibreglass KG cabrio body u could chuck on a bug floor pan

Regarding bumpers, if they cop a heavy knock there is every chance its going to split or break. Especially around the brackets
Is that a concern?
A light/medium knock is fine as the carbon layup is fairly flexible.

I have been a fibreglass buildier for 16 years. Raw material supply is no problems.
I don't know if there is much of a market for this kind of
stuff in VW land.
The molding itself can get quite expensive,especially when your making many parts. I would think the price of the finished product would be shocking
in some cases.
For example, off the top of my head, door cards would easily be three times the price of stock repros. $300- $400 give or take for door cards is a
little more than I think people are willing to pay?? Don't know.
Stuff like headlight surrounds, tail light housings, late model bumpers and brackets, wiring covers, front indicator housings, running boards,
aftermarket air cleaner tops, fire wall in engine, firewall inside front and speaker/kick panels. door pillar guards, finger plate guards, dash
inserts and custom bits and pieces. But I don't know if there would be enough interest in these 'dress up' parts for it to be worthwhile making the
molds.
Yeah I just don't know. More research is needed me thinks.

mate, that price for door cards, i'll give you the $$ today!!!........i'd be sticking to the things that are more suited to a wide variety of
rides......
IE 99% of beetles wear black running boards, so carbon fibre ones are going to appeal to a lot of people and suit many cars, i'm sure these would be
a bulk seller and to be honest, i would make them my first product, add them to my shopping cart with the door trims PLEASE ........where as bonnets and boots suit more a specific "style" being
the racier look beetles.........
.....small things will be easily freighted.....$$$, as too running boards and wiring covers would be relatively easily packed as opposed to say a
guard or bonnet
get onto it buddy, there is a market there for sure
see attachment looks phat, but may not appeal to people being discreet or who have just finished a big $$ paint.
fibre panels do break up the "smooth" look we all set out to achieve

Great thread.....beat me to it.
I have recently made the moulds for two styles of one piece baja bonnets and tell you, to make perfect quality parts, the labour that goes into them
is VERY substantial. IF I was payed for every hour that went into these two moulds, they would have cost probably 20k.....
The parts like door trims and speaker grills can be cut from flat panel so only a template is req'd???
Maybe alien8 and I should combine some resources to get more of these bits available.
I like most of the mentioned parts, but bonnets with the sealing lip is quite a bit harder than without.

Great idea. I think personally the hardest part to find these days is a rust free front bonnet for any model, you can buy just about any other panel
new except these.

Door trims would be flat panel, maybe with a soft backing to fill them out a llittle from the door. Dash grills would have to be molded off originals
with a bit of modifying. Yes, molding can take a few goes before you get a nice workable mold.
Yeah mate, I am happy to work with you. Lets get these parts out there.
I plan to do some molding of a few small parts this week. I'll post some results.
