New guy introducing himself

Hi guys,

Great forum with some awesome cars here! I'm actually over in the UK but love the stuff going on here, seems a very innovative scene you have.

I've been into VW's for about 20 years and have owned quite a few in that time from wrecked late model bugs (about 8 late models), a couple of 66's, a 67, a 59, a timewarp 40k mile from new 64 and most recently a 54 Oval. Also owned a split bus and a bay bus too, but have decided busses aren't really my thing (although I think they're cool). Would really like to own a ghia and a type 3 fastback at some point, although thats not going to be anytime soon according to the wife!

My current ride is a 54 Oval bug with a 2276 turbo'd motor - a bit old school in that its a draw through system, when funds and brain cells permit I'm going to inject it & blow through, but in the mean time I'm happy to have fun with it. The car runs 4 wheel disc brakes, a rancho pro-street trans with a RLR 1" trans lift, motor specs are 82 x 94 (Scat crank, mahle b&p's), webcam 86C cam, 42 x 37.5 wedgeport heads, 8:1 CR. Turbo is/was a rayjay with a 45DCOE carb, although I'm mid way through changing all that over to a more modern turbho, a Garrett T04 with a Holley 650 cfm carb. I've only ever had it on the strip in n/a form and haven't had chance yet with either turbo setup due to breakages (ignition woes!).

Here's the car:

Cheers
Chunk

Welcome Chunk. You bug looks awesome. Nice work. I say leave the weber on there. You can't beat the growl of a weber. Having said that, it's hard to go past the big cfm and easy workings of the holley too. Either way, it looks like you're in for a lot of fun.

Thanks dirtbag! I'm up at York raceway at the end of this month, so providing I don't damage anything else I should have some idea of how well it runs.
