Putting vents into an early Engine lid ??? HELP!

I'm wanting to put vents into a 60's engine lid and also keep it looking "period". I think the factory convertable engine lid look is what i'm probably after......so where do i get the vents from ?

I think I read somewhere that you can use the vents from the front of a Kombi to be grafted into the lid ????

Pictures and suggestions is what I'm after !!

Cheers
Craig T

craig find a crappy old 70-71 2 vent decklid and cut the vents out

thats what the 60s cabs had

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/172642.jpg

or the 50s ones had vertical vents u could make from a bay window front grille

the second one looks like a sad face.... You could also put a vent behind the number plate and space it out with something for more air flow.... :)

the front grill on bays has vents like that but whether u can get them to bend like that
also might be a bit thin for welding

if u know someone with a stuffed bug shell u could cut out the vents below the back window and use them

There was a engineering business in Albury (if I'm not mistaken) that punches in louvres; I have seen a Healey bonnet done by them and it was excellent - unfortunately the useful details like the business name have since eluded me. The point is, welding in a section is not the only option; you mght be able to get your existing lid punched.

The BN2 louvres are different to the VW, they are cut and punched into a stock bonnet. You can get the cut and punch done using 'louvre cutters' They work well, and do a good job.

We have about 50 Austin Healeys, where I work at any given time. This is where I work

http://www.healeyfactory.com.au/

This way you can cut and punch louvres into the original metal without welding anything. Start ringing sheetmetal fabrication places.

I don't want louvres..........i prefer a "factory" look.

I wonder if the vents from a later lid mounted vertical would look any good.!

Vents from a Golf bonnet work well, used to do a lot at VR using these and plenty available.
