remove paint layer??
Can you remove paint a layer at a time? My bug got resprayed battleship grey and I wanna remove it to see if the original Anthracite paint exists
underneath - is this possible??
I assume that if it is I risk damaging the original paint - scratching/ lifting it etc?

u could lightly sand it. with 80grit wed/dry. long job however.

depends how good the respray was.
one of my bugs looked like it was just washed then resprayed, scratching the top coat off the original was better underneath 
most cars are resprayed for a reason
theres a young kid on the samba who has a superbeetle that was given a quick blow and go respray beofre he got it and he spent hours cleaning if off
with some sort of chemical which was doing the job but after much hard work he found his hood was faded to bare metal in spots, had a big repair job
done down the bottom and his decklid was from a different coloured bug

Sorry Nick, but yeah, the best way to get down through the paint in layers is to sand it by hand I'm afraid. To make sure the job doesn't take 9
years you'd want to start with a fairly course paper, but then you run the risk of putting some deepish scratches into the original paint, unless the
original paint was removed before the car was resprayed.
Doesn't sound like a fun time to me. Sure you don't like the battleship grey? : )

Hmmm, looks like I'm gonna be sticking with battleship grey for a while! sounds too much like hard work for little reward.
Reckon I'll wait until I'm ready to strip her back and do a proper job... one day.. maybe.... I'll stick with killing off rust spots and
identifying holes for now.

DONT USE SANDPAPER
go to samba for lots of threads on this.
I stripped my 15 window using razorblades and graffiti remover oven cleaner is also good. sandpaper will take years and you will damage the OG as well
