KG 14 1961 project*For Sale, has to go*
The story so far.
The car began restoration about 8 years ago by a gentleman who resided in the Dandenongs, he has taken a fair proportion of the car back to metal, but
there is still a fair bit more to go, he has also begun cutting out and repairing the rust in the car and from what I have seen he has done a good
job, no corners cut, pardon the pun, and also begun smoothing a lot of the dents in the car.
It was then sold to a fellow Melburg VW Nut who simply did not get the time to do the project, and now I have bought it and the journey continues.
So I picked up the car last Sat 5th Sept, at around 11.30am, and have parked it in the shed and gone through the mountain of spare parts with the
car.
Then on Sat Afternoon the work began, first was to check all the gaps around the car and inspect all the mounts and mechanical, this being given a
clean bill of health it was time to separate the body and the pan.
Then I began removing all the primer and then the long task of metal finishing all the previous repairs, and removing all the filler that had been put
in, I have made some good progress on the RH front guard, and am now working around the front panels....so much to do Sad ......I am convinced that I
am completely mad
After checking through the parts I placed an order with CIP in the US and Ill be stuffed all the gear arrived today Shocked, I cant get parts from
Sydney that quick Exclamation

Nice score there. It looks way better than the one I saw in St Mary's last week. I think it was mostly body filler and very little Ghia. I have to
agree with your experience with CIP. Incredibly fast shipping. I'm curious how you dash pad turns out. I've yet to get one for mine and RHD dash
tops are not so commonly listed at the suppliers in the US and Europe.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I'm envious.
I can't wait to get my grubby hands on a KG one day...
I rekon they are the classi-est Vee dub that was out (my own opinion). Like, for the rich and famous compared to the middle mans common beetle. (I
don't feel classy with a 69' baja lol)
Pat on the back for the awesome work!

Ya should have got into the scene about 24 months ago haha, i would have invited ya round. maybe i should check out ur beaast one day mate :P
CIP are great... i have done deals iwth them and they been very reliable. however, i took a price list to Mick Motors, and the awesome guys there
agreed to compete with it. saved like $100 compared to buying from CIP, which including GST, simply by not having to pay postage.

Everyone has good and bad days. My experiences with Mick's Motors have always been great! I doubt they do much trade in KG's though.

Well finally an update, the KG has got colour on it at last, the engine bay, boot and cabin have all been painted in readiness for the body to be put
back on the pan, the engine has still not arrived which is now put
the dead line in question, but hopefully I can pick up some time else where

The floor has all been covered with Dynamat as will most outward facing panels.
The car in the back ground is an RA28 Celica, for sale I might add.

Well did some more "tinkering" today, did Dynomat to the fire wall, and bulk head, also painted the glovebox, ash tray and steering column, and
trial fitted the steering wheel.

great work!
quick question though....doesn't the Dynamat normally go inside the cabin.....not that I would know, just wondered as I had only ever seen it fitted
inside.
would love to know your thoughts, as I was looking at using Dynamat on my Notch eventually, and would prefer to use it in the most effective way as
I've heard its quite expensive stuff.
Many thanks!

sorry mate, forgot to say how much I liked your steering wheel. Is it a Moto-Lita? It has a real period look that will suit your Ghia beautifully!
