The Citrus Bug
Hey guys, I'm new to the VW scene and I just picked up my first bug! It's a 1970 with earlier guards and lights, as well as a few other goodies both
internally and externally. I bought it off a hot-rodder who treated it with love and care, and I'm hoping to keep it in the same way he did! Let me
know what you think!
Engine Specs:
- 1835 cc
- Gene Berg Valves/Springs/Retainers

Bingo! Yeah picked it up on the weekend - slowly getting used to driving it!
And yes, the Bug wave is a def. Mandatory!
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get the fuel gauge more accurate? Mine goes from empty to full whenever it pleases!?

Hey nice bug! Good score!
I don't know a great deal about bugs in particular (type 3's are my bag) but your fuel gauge issue sounds a bit like a bad earth on the sender
possibly......
.......dont forget, this advice is coming from a definite non-expert on bugs!

gauge!
I'm super keen to start heading on some cruises when they're around, just need to sort out a few niggles before then!

would be much easier to just fill up every 200miles
can you elaborate abit more on what its doing?
when i first bought my current bug when the tank was above half a tank ithe guage worked fine but just used to go to empty when going around
corners
once it got below half it only worked when driving up hill
i found there was a break in the windings on my float sender. new float did the trick

Its The Chevalier Colege (which is my school) Fete. Every year they have this they host the highlands motorfest as well.
I dont think thereis any prizes or anything but i went last year and there would have been around 8 or 9 bugs there i think cant really remember that
welll.
There is a thread with the info in te club chat forum.
Hope you can make it cause its normally a preety goog day.

Hi mate, I checked out this car very nice and great attention to detail. One thing though the engine number does not match the rego, it was never
re-registered with the RTA you might want to make sure you get that done as the rego was due on it soon I think and it may cause you problems. You may
also need an engineer report for the replaced front brakes. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Enjoy your new ride!

Just pay the fee for the engine number transfer.
The brakes is another thing. But if they are type3 then i doubt you need be concerned

Nice car mate. Welcome.
Look at the voltage stabiliser, a little ally electrical box attached to the back of the fuel gauge, check the small mounting screw is tight, it
earths the unit, and can cause your symptoms.

Just a quick update guys!
Went to start the car the other morning for uni, and it wouldn't start, no matter what I tried! I spent around 20 mins trying to get it started,
checked all the usual details, but no matter what I did I couldn't work out why.
I pushed it a little up from my house (past a bus stop of bewildered onlookers) for a good old fashion rolling hill start. Nothing.
As i rolled it up to the gutter and parked it, I figured I should pop the kill switch on... Oh S**t, the Kill Switch...
Sure enough, in my sleep deprived state I had completely forgotten the kill-switch was activated, thus ensuring i flooded the engine with petrol and
fouled the plugs and drained the battery - Not a bad way to start the day!
So now my little bug is resting down from my house (in full view from my balcony thank God) in a little dead-end street by itself.
I've tried to start it up a few times with a jump, but it just farts and carries on, with the occasional flame bursting through the exhaust and
carby's.
I'm planning to clean the plugs this weekend and then take it for a well earned cob-web-cleaner of a drive.
Any one got any suggestions as to other things that may help with the sparking to life of the bug?
