Gearbox Questions

I have a gearbox, labelled AH, and this is what i have found out:

AH 1500 4.125 IRS suspension from 8/68
AH 1600 4.125 8/69-8/72

From what i understand from this is that all AH boxes are IRS, this is a swing axle box with long axles and tubes, with a 4.125 ratio which i counted.

Was there AH swing axle boxes? Or could someone have replaced the irs with swing axle?

And when putting in an oval, is the only thing you have to change over the early bus nose cone?

Cheers

this depends on what sort of front gearbox mount you have there are 2 different types the wrap around one requires the Kombi nose cone

here yar go

Item 4 is the wrap round mount and bolt to the rear torsion tube housing

Item 7 is the later style similar to 40hp gearbox mounts up to 1967

so if you have the wrap round mount then u will need a 40hp Split Kombi gearox nose cone

I have item 7 from 1956 bug, which had the small rubber mount which seems to be number 3 originally.

I have a 1960 reduction box nose cone attached to a 1500 box. Should i be using a 1200 nose cone, in which the hockey stick is up higher and a number 3 rubber mount? I dont think the number 5 mount fits onto the number 7 mount.

Seems that its like this, the 56 pan has the mount up higher, closer to the hole in which the hockey stick goes into, where as the later pans, i have a 63 as an example, has the mount down lower.

The bus nose cone has a closer mounting point to the hockey stick 6-7cm, where as the later model including 1200 gearbox has around 10cm difference.

So the answer to the question is, when using a 56 pan and later model gearbox, you need early bus nose cone.

Cheers
