My wife's '71 Dormobile
Hi all
Excitement in our family after purchasing the camper you see pictures of below. It was on Ebay and owned by an older couple out in Mid west
Queensland.
It is not perfect but is really really good as far as the body goes (i.e. minor, tiny rust)
We did have a '72 that we were working on but it was just taking too long with the 54 beetle build up for the track and study for both of us.
We have already been away camping and the boys slept up in the beds up top. Surprisingly theu said they were really quite comfortable. We will tinker
away with the interior as we have a full width rock'n'roll bed that we will have recovered and a cupboard to build and/or table.
Motor is a dual port 1600cc that is okay but will add 043 heads, twin 40mm idf's and a decent exhaust to sharpen it up a little. The gearbox will be
replaced with the one out of my single cab which was rebuilt by DB. Magic box thanks Dave!!
Happy wife .. her 40th present just a couple of months early.

Bunch of things done in the last 6 months.
New upholstery inside with full width rock'n'roll bed and mattress folds up neatly behind rear seat. New door cards to match.
Most recently it got the old 1641cc engine out of my single cab with some nicely freshened and ported 043 heads, a set of 36 dellortos and just a
basic Kadron exhaust. Gearbox is from my single cab with stock ratios. Wheels are Fuchs copies with 205/70/15 out back and 205/65/15 up front. The
wheels were meant for my SC but don't fit.
New sliding windows fitted in the middle too. We like it and enjoy it as a family.

Here are a couple of photos from our latest camping trip. Had a great time in Xmas Ck, Sheepstation Ck (Border ranges National Park: NSW QLD border)
and Woody Head/Iluka. Dropped in to say a brief hello to Rod Richardson out on his farm on the way thru.
Drove like a dream. Glad I had replaced wheel cylinders and shoes in the rear brakes : the descent off the eastern end of the Scenic Rim road from
Sheepstation Creek is a cracker. Went back to first gear for some parts.

Work has been progressing here and there on Tricia's Dormobile.
The latest 2 things are the Dormobile top which Matt Berry (and Crazy Col) have been doing over the last few weeks. A lot of fibreglassing and repairs
were required. Factory is not always perfect. I should pick this up during this week and refit next weekend. This was done mainly to get rid of some
leak issues that were annoying.
The other part I finished this weekend was new sway bars.
I got the bars themselves from Matt (NOS whiteline) and then had to source the fitting kit and do some fabrication of mounting points. Lots of time as
usual but happy with the result. Will see how it drives when top goes back on. Front bar is a 24mm and the rear a 20mm.

Here are some pics of the in/out oil pump and cooler/thermostat/filter added to my wife's Dormobile.
It is not a straight forward thing to do with even the engine support bar, tinware and pulley needing attention.
The result is great though. The cooler is from a 1980's Mercedes W110. Fit up very nicely.
