Rear deck lid swap for 66 bug

Hi

I have a bit of rust at the bottom of the engine lid which I believe will stop me getting the car registered.

I am looking for another boot lid cheap to use in the meantime as I don't have the cash at the moment to get it repaired properly and was hoping I could find one to swap over.

Obviously a 66 boot lid would be ideal but these seem a bit rare and the one I have found the guy wants $350 for which seems a bit steep to me.

Anyway, I thought another year model may work also for a temporary swap if I can get one for the right price. Does anyone know what year model boot lids should be able to be swapped directly over to my 66? I would think anything from 61 or so up to 67 should swap over directly with mounts and latches matching up but can anyone provide any thoughts on this?

Thanks

OK... I'm curious... what's different/special about a 66 deck lid ???

I've never owned a 66, but I would've thought it'd be the same as either a 65 or a 67 lid, with maybe just the number plate light housing being different...

nothing, there no difference between a 64 and a 67
except the last batch of 67s had the late model push button catch like euro bugs instead of the old T handle twist type

anything pre 67 will fit it
the one for $350 would want to be an oval W decklid in decent shape for that kinda money

Just for comparison, I just sold my 54 w lid which is different to other w lids. It was mint and I sold it for $500.
350 would be about right.
