Yeah its still got the slots in the back of the body and the whale tail is basically a giant chute that sucks out the hot air

Don't try and understand Ian, It will hurt your brain..

Question, how does hot air get sucked out? more like cool/fresh air going in.... if air isnt going in there, you have issues...

i just thought that given the design of the tail the air that comes over the car and down across the air duct drawing the hot air out

.... hot air rises then the cool 'clean' air coming across the car draws it away from the car

all that aside theres heaps of ventilation more so then the standard bug

Hi

When I had 14 inch wheels on my old 72 bug I could never cure the shakes properly, then I went to 15, 16, & 17s, no more wobbles.

its cos all the old school 14" rims like the centerlines on jacky_moo's bugs, the jelly beans on steves, hotwires, globes etc all use square shank bolts so they never center the wheel truely

nearly everything 15" and bigger all use taper acorn nuts/bolts so they center the wheel up as they tighten

i had the same problems when i had hotwires on
50mph shimmy city was the highlight of my day

Hi

The shimmy went when I went to 15s and all the urethane bushes. The 15s that I had on my bug were Performance Challengers, sort of Globe copies, they still used the square type bolts.

When I was running 14s they were deep offset Magnum Eliminators, perhaps the dish had something to do with it, but when I was running these 14s I used to go to extremes to get rid of the shimmy, I used to get on car wheel balances and centre punch the wheels and brakes so that they would go back on properly.

Colonel, there is some nice Design 90s on the bay at the moment, would look good on your car.

On David's 1303 at different times it had a stuffed lower ball joint and tie rod end, no shimmies.

Hey Steve do you mean these ones?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Porsche-964-911-944-928-16-factory-design-90-wheels_W0...

They're local to me, but I'm not sure it's the look I'm going for.

I probably should have thought about that before I spent $275 on new discs.... ooops...

plus - they are $500, and the vforce wheels are only $750....

Thanks Steve (and also sorry about the post hi-jack). When you say Barry do you mean Bizarre? Last photos of Marty seem to have different wheels. I actually really want the wheels on David's car.

Colonel, I'm hanging out and not spending a cent on wheels, brakes and suspension (apart from that which is necessary to keep it safe) until I have enough cash stored to do it all at once. It's hurting me to wait, but in theory it should save me money.

yep, mine is hurtinig me currently.... trying to find work, but there just isnt a whole lot around brisbane.... thinking seriously about going 'rural', potentially with SU qld. fun stuff.

Colonel needs all new bushes, tie rods/ball joints, and soon. But, on the positive side, May be getting a set of the vforce wheels for my 21st (in october) - if my suspension is sorted. I have many other plans of things to happen before then too..

well happy to report that after todays repair work to the tinware the heat problem has pretty much gone, its now running MUCH cooler, previously a 15 min drive would result in the bonnet handle getting so hot you could barely touch it.. now its yes still hot but its at a normal level!

pig is going to look much better soon.. just gotta get the shake fixed... i know what your all saying about the size of the wheels etc but it never used to do it so its just something worn out!

OK after some clean up work and a few things here and there pig is finally running nicer!

has gotten some nice chrome bits here and there aswell as a general clean up, the intake boots have been temporarily mended and as a result have been able to actually tune the carby and its now running well.
did timing and valve adjustment too and its much happier.. exhaust is still too loud for my taste so the 'thunderbird' system thats on it will be making way for some stock style extractors and twin pipes... im thinking non baffled pipes

heres a pic of before and after... i just wish i had a picture of what it looked like when i first got it... looking so so so much better now!!

On a side note,

baffleless stock exhaust is very loud. I puilled the baffels out of the tai pipes and it was really loud.

Thought it was time for a whee update on piggy,

have been sorting out little issues with the car (mainly wiring) and thanks to the oracle (Joel) have actually got just about everything working!

Have never had working parker lights (well they never worked when they were supposed to) i changed the globes last night and got one side working... pass side still nothing so i cleaned all the contacts and earths... still nothing.. was not until i was about to give up i noticed the brass negative contact was not actually touching the globe... kinda felt dumb haha but they now work and are VERY bright!!

http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo120/marty_aes/sideonparkers.jpg

i fitted the halogen reading light globes from my falcon and they are well bright.. tbh they are about as bright as my old 6v headlights (keep in mind the following pic is of the parkers only NOT low beams

http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo120/marty_aes/frontparkers.jpg

also here is the many exhausts of piggy, first one being the exhaust from eden (EgeWorks) tuck away empi branded system with extractors sanded back and repainted, looks the ducks guts and sounds rather sweet if not a little quiet. second in line is a stock muffler i bought to replace the original extractors and zoom tube that were fitted (removed due to a crack in one of the pipes + it did not really look that good with the body kit.

http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo120/marty_aes/pigpuffs.jpg

have to get some proper pics of the custom LED tail lights but need to remember to take my slr home because my phone camera does not show them up for how good they look.

pics will follow of custom dash fittings/lighting when finished and a pretty and shiny engine bay ... when its finished haha

On our 1302S it had bad shimmy, and a set of new urethane bushes instantly fixed it. Now 5 years later the shimmy came back a bit, and a wheel alignment fixed it. The toe setting was 11mm out, and was changed to 1.5mm in. A total of 12.5mm change. It was very bad.
