Cooling fans
I want to get rid of the std fan housing but still want some cooling for the track. Does anybody have any of these. I think Rod has some on 48IDA?

Just after some feedback on their efficiency and whether or not they fit with std single carb manifold. I think one side would foul as they're not LH
and RH. Could they be modified? if anyone has got any for sale I'm happy to be the pioneer.

see your local car air conditioner man they use these on the old smiths systems.

Pretty much yes.
If both elec motors face towards the front of the car I think they would fit my setup unfortunately they don't come that way I don't think and CB
don't reply to enquiries.

i've seen two setups using electric radiator style cooling fans. big 12" jobs.
One on westies old setup (now on Rueb's 58) on a typ4 powered circuit beetle and another utilizing a porsche fan housing on split beetle drag car in
UltraVW mag some time back. Surely it would cheaper to use of those. Just find a big one at a wrecker and give it a try.
Failing that, you could plug the back of a stock fan shroud and bolt a 10" fan onto the front and give that a go. With the latter setup, you'd only
have the price of the fan to loose if it didn't work.

got one of westies setups on my car, having trouble getting up to temp. i dont run an alternator and the thermo dosent draw to much, with a decent alt
or gen you should have no probs

actually that set up won't work for me as I have a turbo manifold that runs through where the std single carb runner goes

Hey Stanley
I am running those fans on my 2332cc drag motor, I also have a Autometer head temp. gauge with a sensor in each cyl. head and a switch on the dash so
I can check each heads temperature. I have had no trouble with them overheating and I only have them on during line up, the burn out, turn them off
for the run, then switch them back on to come back on the return road. The gauge run from 140deg.f to 340deg.f and never seems to go higher than
220deg.f. I don't think I would run these on a street car but for drag racing they should be fine, but remember too high a compression ratio,
incorrect fuel and ignition timing to name just a few things that can cause high head temps. Michael

yeah i suppose, but the goal of this system is evenly distributing the air and as far as I know this is the best setup for that. i hear that it works
well in high ambient temps.
If not can run some large aluminum ducts with close proximity to the fan from under and around the tranny.
