Which Beetle had a ball joint front with an IRS rear?

This thread covers most of the ground:

I think all IRS pans have ball joint fronts.

I think most IRS Beetles have Mac Strut front ends.

auto bugs had a beam front and IRS rear. (you have to convert them to manual)

and 76 bugs, had beams and IRS (they are manual!)

Superbugs have IRS, and struts, which is better.

end thread?

Yes,
You are correct, except for Automatic beetles which got IRS in 1968...
ALL Auto beetles were IRS...

Yet... ALL Beetles sold in North America from 1969 had IRS...

[instead of disc brakes] lol

Yes a super bug would be no good but a standard 76 with a ball joint beam and IRS would be just the ticket.

Thing spindles could be fitted to the front on a BJ beam. A 1600 Kombi Box would give much better gearing. I wonder how the motor would fit if I used a 10 degree kit to mount the tranny?

whats this 10 degree kit u talk of? Does it mount the transmission on a slight angle such that at the motor it has a little moer ground clearance or something? u thinkin of using a lift kit?

by the way, those bajas' with the stock body rear end look superb!
Only issue with 76' pans is its not pre adrs... which i'm pretty sure ur aware of if that is even a concern for you. most likely not an issue though.

yes mounts the tranny on an angle so that the shift rod lines up with the front of a kombi box. I'm not sure if the fan shroud on the motor will clear the firewall when used in a Beetle.

I don't think I would have a body lift. The ones in the pic don't have one and don't look like they need it.

manual conversion isn't all that bad either :tu:

And by not being a 76' model, the pan is still pre adr's :)
