Help -- want to race my VW in SA...
Hi Guys, i want to race my bug in SA somewhere... living in Adelaide and keep seeing all this info about interstate events. Any chance of finding some
local info... Maybe through Hosking and Debiasi??? what events and what classes do i have to consider.
Finally got a new project and would be good if i knew any restrictions that i need to follow too.

If you don't mind a bit of dirt and mud, then Beetles are ideally suited to Khanacross. The next khanacross in SA is in Tailem Bend this Sunday, you
could come and watch to see if it's for you. Khanacross is very cheap at around $40 per event. The only real requirements are for mudflaps behind the
rear wheels, a blue triangle sticker on the bodywork near the battery (tape is fine), a second throttle return spring and a 1kg or larger fire
extinguisher mounted securely within reach of the driver.

ok interesting........
More info please...
i have just got it and i took it for a drive around the block and it sounds like it has a dislodged thrust bearing... and the carb installed is a
weber w-224501 (aparrently shit, ive had no dealings with it), and that runs rough as adog. But i do have a spare 1600tp sitting in the shed that i
could look at putting in and trying to make it to the event, but hat is a humungus maybe, still havent taken it more than around the bloc and that was
the first drive in 6-7 years apparently.
Great
Any more ideas fellas, this would be a fun place to start, i saw hill climbing at collingrove but also saw Adam DeBiasi nearly roll his over too...
any other hillclimbs or motorkhanas?/ ideas

Best suggestion I can make is to find a local car club that's involved in Motorsport.
VW Club of SA is the main VW based one I know of down there - they have a few guys who are very active, and am sure would be able to help you in
getting started....
VWDCQ vice pres & web dude - vwdcqinc.org.au
Join a car club - get car peeps

Well, the first place to start is to get the car well sorted mechanically then! Also, join the VW Club of SA, as Sides says. I'm in it, and they're
a good bunch of people with a small but enthusiastic motorsport section, with CAMS affiliation. The place to go on the internet for info on
grass-roots motorsport in SA is the Southern Districts Car Club, they own and operate the Lanac Park dirt circuit for Autocross and Khanacross, and
their website keeps tabs on Motorkhanas and Khanacross, with downloadable supp regs and entry forms.
If you want to know what's going on in the world of hillclimb then the Sporting Car Club of SA are the people to ask, as they own and operate
Collingrove, which is the only permanent hillclimb course in SA as far as I know. I haven't yet been able to work out the cost of a normal hillclimb
entry though. I have done a Come & Try hillclimb at Collingrove and would like to do more, but I'm a bit concerned that I wouldn't get many runs
in per dollar. For people who regularly run hillclimbs, how much does a Collingrove hillclimb entry cost and how many runs do you usually get? I've
heard that the State Championships are about $120 entry, so I'm assuming that the regular cost is somewhere around $60?
