Towing with a kombi?
Who here tows with their kombi or has done in the past? I have a 77 kombi with a 2L and manual box which I'm thinking about towing a dirt bike
trailer with. The trailer fully loaded would weigh under 600kg. Would my van handle that ok? What's would be the max I could tow? Any mods I could do
to the van to help it out a bit?
Any advice would be great,
thanks,
Alex.

No problems if your engine is set up right, and brakes and suspension in good nick.
I've towed car trailer's all over the country with a bay and a wbxr. Admittedly my bay had a few different hipo engine combo's over the years, but
always air cooled.

I have an '82 2l EFI camper that I use to tow a tradies trailer when we are camping. I have had no issues and have now towed that trailer for
probably 150,000 kms all told.

We regularly towed up to 2.5 tonnes (the legal max) (and occassionally a bit more- whistles innocently) on a 76 kombi with the heavy duty towbar/rear
protector bar
flat towed kombi campers up to 400km on the flatbar
600kg??
unless its in really poor shape- you should be able to tow that trailer from sydney to perth and back

Thanks guys, I thought it would be ok but just wanted to check it out first. Now I've just got to make a tow bar for the van!
