I love the handling. I'm not changing it.
That's a cool classic shot Greg. It's amazing to me that you drove a swinger with drums and cross-plies around Mt Panorama. How did you hold your
backside in the standard seat?
My oval doesn't spend much time on 3 wheels. Only 2 of 80 or so shots show the car on 3 wheels.
I used to run bigger rear torsion bars and koni shocks and the car didn't lift it's front wheels. Disappointing because the photos never looked that
spectacular. But on the limit it would kick the back out too much. I wanted to reduce the oversteer and get the car to 4 wheel drift.
I went back to type 3 rear springs. Then I changed the worn konis to bilsteins. The bilsteins have an inch less droop. As a result the car now lifts a
front wheel occasionally but it doesn't understeer. It's got heaps of font end grip. It's great. It's so neutral.
One of they guys at Marulan came up and said "wow, your car just grips and goes". It suits my driving style which is fairly conservative.
Jak and I are heading to Eastern Creek next weekend. I don't think the oval will be lifting wheels on those corners.
Thanks for the comments guys.

CT,
I have been racing for a while now, and i,ve learnt a thing or two.
One of the most important things i,ve picked up along the way, is no-one knows your car, and it,s set up for your driving style, better than you.
Listen to other people then decide for yourself.
Hell if i listened to other people i would not be racing a superbeetle.

Dave, no dreams spoiled really - still married (same bird), and still getting in some track time.
Drove at Bathurst in 1963 (Easter & Armstrong 500) - Beetles, and 1969 & 1970 - F.Vee.
CT, The Beetle was better at Bathurst than you might think. Most of the corners were under 70 MPH, and the car wasn't fast enough to be upset by the
'fast' corners. I managed to grab the 1000 to 1300 lap record. Hit 102 MPH down the straight, but it jumped about a bit coming out of 'The
Cutting'. A lap belt sort of kept you in the seat. Remember,
this was my only car, and I had to drive it there and back - as well as to work on Monday.
You are the one who best knows how your car feels (it looks good to me, by the way), so keep doing what you're doing. Try to make one change at a
time, and you will end up with what you want - then you can try to get it even better.
Have a good time at 'The Creek'.
Cheers, Greg
P.S. On the '3 wheel' subject, at Warwick Farm Causeway - a long left-hander - the left front wheel was of the deck long enough for the speedo
needle to drop back to zero, then suddenly shoot up to 70 MPH or so when the wheel dropped!
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

He,s great loving retierment
My sister happened to get a copy of a story of the 1972 Australiian Hillclimb Championships which was held at Mattara Newcastle.
It,s the only video footage we have of dad racing. So cool to see him driving his Torana with his coke bottle glasses on, and open face helmet.
From the story dad was a bit of a legend in the Hillclimb scene. He,s not one to talk about himself to much but mum said he was quiet chuffed when my
sister presented the video footage to him. He beat his own record that day by 4 seconds, and won his class. He actually was 5 times Australian
Hillclimb Champ.
Whenever i have a question about car setup or alike dad is always someone i can ask. You can,t beat experience.
Cheers Col
