The '76er - ...the Monster has arrived
My whole VW experience didn't quite start the way I wanted it to.
After taking a ride in a mate's 2180cc beetle with twin 48IDAs, I was convinced (by some devil on my shoulder) that I could easily have something
just as quick by throwing a few thousand dollars at my car.
Haha. No.
My first ride was this little beauty,
Which was mighty pretty, but mighty shitty.
1835cc's of pure blow-by.
I sold that one off and bought a mighty Nissan GTi-R.
Devilishly quick, it was quick to partner up with the RTA in an attempt to steal my licence away.
Luckily however, my senses got the better of me and I sold that after owning it for only two months.
And now I have this, my 1976 'worm and roller' Beetle.
So far, the works include..
Body:
- Rust removed
- Coated in the beautifully scented fish oil
- Matte black coat with blue side panels
- Smoked Tail lights (no photos of yet)
Interior:
- Re-upholstered Procar seats
- New Carpet
Suspension:
- Bilstein Coilovers up front and shocks at the rear
Engine:
- 1600 TP
- Fully Balanced Crank
- Cima Pistons
- 36 Webber Carburetor
- Lightened Flywheel
A nice daily driver to get me from A to B...
However I also want to get to C... and quite quickly too.
So sitting in a secret location is my new engine
- 2276cc
- Fully Balanced Crank
- 044 Heads (need to check specs)
- 120/130 Cam (need to check specs)
- Straight Cut Cam Gears
- Dual 44IDF Webbers.
The checklist of items (over the next few years) also includes:
- Porsche Pattern upgrade
- Re-spray (sunburnt orange or Porsche chocolate)
- Aero-guards (I'm a sucker for phat beetles)
- Rancho Superstreet 'box
- and a few things I'm sure I've forgotten!
Figured I'd get it up on here for some inspiration so I don't end up in the backlogs of the internet with nothing done to the car!
Cheers,
Ollie

Hi
Looks like a great start, the 1600 will preserve your license for now, I don't know how long it will last with the bigger motor.

I did indeed! Sadly I can't afford that just yet - saving for a trip to America in September which is putting the car on hold at the moment.
But hopefully some more will pop up over time

Welcome to the 76 club. I've recently started my 76 build as well and am my 2nd 76. You can see my previous rides can be seen here http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=79048&page=1#pid735065. We'll have to chat some time and compare
notes. Needless to say I'd prefer you go the Porsche chocolate. I'll need to start a build thread at some stage. Cheers Cameron

Hi
They are prone to rust like all late bugs, some say the build quality wasn't as good as the assembly workers were making other types of cars in the
same plant.

Ah well all the original parts will eventually make way for better parts so thats find. As for rust - eh, stripping it down in a year and a bit to
paint so I'll check it all then
Hey Ryan the car wasn't actually that bad - just a lot of blow-by and wasn't up to the daily grind.
Wish I'd kept it, though. Cleanest body ever

A few more photos of the car!
Managed to pick up some shadow taillights (which IMO look better) and started to paint the wheels, but rain got in the way so only half way there.

Just a quick update!
Some moron ripped my bumper apart the other week, so I had to bend it back into place and just run with it for the moment before I find a replacement
I also managed to steal my girlfriend's camera and went on a shooting spree with my car! Just a few to enjoy...
