subaru to kombi (starter motor/radiator)

Just wondering what type of starter motor is best to use when you do this conversion as I will be needing one.

Also I want to put a radiator between the chasis rails underneath there is 65cm between the rails to work with.

Cheers

hey mate. finally doing the conversion eh?

if it's a kombi box then a kombi 2.0l starter would do fine if you are cheap. if it's a type 1 irs box, a cranky kit starter would be better. not too expensive either. Custom Veedub has them I think.

Re the rad, coz I assume this is going in a split. there is muchos room for a rad under the front of a split. I know coz I measured Andy's 67 split. It just has to be higher than the steering box. box it all in and put a gurney flap behind it to draw the air through and out of it.

Thanks mate, yeah decided to put a subby in the 58 split.

The gear box I am running is a single plate beetle box.

I run a subaru starter and cranky kit in both my cars. I had lots of trouble starting one of them with only a vw starter.
I run a small radiator under my floor and a subaru radiator at the rear on my kombi.

Subie in a 58' eh? LOVE IT! The purists are gonna cry.

I wonder when we'll win Andy over to this sort of sensible thinking?

BTW, you better show us some pics of the intended victim.

Have a little look at my build, I have a rad between the chassis rails, (74 model) and got a custom PWR and the best money spent on the whole thing!!. Temps are perfect, have a shroud but dont really need it. Also run a 2ltr starter and seems to be working fine.

Thanks all. Good stuff.

I'm having big dramas with the electrics now because it's a 2006 wiring with drive throttle

hey pete, there are pics under 58 dd in the rat section. I put links there.

If that doesn't work let me know and I will put some up
