I know, but I think you might be mistaken about the 'GTI' - at least in standard form.

In 1991 VW Australia (TKM) was only selling two version of the Golf here - the Mk1 Cabrio, and the Mk2 GTI. Both had 1800cc engines, the Cabrio with 70 kW and the GTI with 77 kW.

As far as I am aware, VW (Karmann) has never made a GTI cabrio. They have always been based on the normal GLS Golf. That said, the GTI engine (even the euro 16V GTI engines) bolt straight in...
