reverse lights on early notch? now sorted
Hey,
My gearbox is from an L bug (single SSP IRS) but it uses my original type 3 nose cone (and selector housing I think).
I recently bought a new reverse light switch to do the conversion but I'm just not sure if there is a spot for it on my box.
I've searched the interweb to no avail. Can anyone help?
Cheers! T

The reverse light switch screws into a plug site at the front drivers side of the nose cone, but I think only on the IRS gearboxes from 69 onwards in
Australia ( they're not on my swing axle 66, 67 or 68 cars). The 69-71 boxes usually don't have the switch installed as reverse lights were an
optional extra.
Earlier swing axle boxes and nose cones don't have this plug, so you need to either use a switch at the speedo cable, or an aftermarket kit which
instals a switch at the gear linkage in the tunnel. These are period accessories by Bosch and Hella, don't think anyone is making repros of these.

Thanks fellas :-)
I thought it went on the nose cone too...
There is one hex plug on the end and what looks like a "blank" for something perhaps.

Hmmm ok, are you 100% on that vlad?
actually...maybe I do have the beetle nose cone on it, and only the front mount is type 3. The vw part number on the nose cone is beetle isn't it? :
113 301 211H
Btw thanks vw-variant...I thought it was 69 and on IRS boxes as well that had it, and the old swingers didn't.

Yes, 113 = beetle part number, and that's definitely the reverse switch location. Luckily that makes it an easy job to fit the reverse light.
