Help / car backfire and sputter and stop Tx
Hi al,,
Just a quick question...It did happen to me before the car will sputter, then backfire then stop...very scary the first time I thought i did the
engine...
so a month ago after it did scare me a lot as the acar will also stop just like that i took it to my mechanic. He could not see anything wrong with
the carbies, fuel filter etc...
Yesterday it did sputter actually it did few sputters beofre but thought it was because she is old..This morning sputters, backifre then stop you
cannot drive more than 40 mhp and going into 4 gear will make the car go wrong!
I beleive it does happen after I do fill up the car... very scary a bit more used to it now but the mechanic said nothing is wrong with my car...last
time i am affraid to take it again and he will say same thing could it be the fuel? only the fuel?
Many thanks for your help

Is it possibly ignition related?

how often do you drive the car ? and what distance do you do? lots of short trips they need a decent run my fastback did the same thing but after a
good run it managed to clear itself i to thought i had stuffed the motor rather than risking breaking down far away from home i just circled the block
several times and the backfiring went away your problem could be the same unless anyone else feels they can shed any light on the problem also my
fuel was possibly stale

Thanks for your quick reply!!! The story is that I had spent a lot on it recently to do everything that was wrong engine wise and suspension
etc...When it did that few weeks ago on me i got scared like hell i thought I did blew off the engine. I drive 30 ks in the morning and 30 ks in the
morning the first time it did happen when I was around 75 80 Mhp...it did back fire so i slow down then it did sputters and then died on me and was
able to drive the car again to go home but very slowly...
tok it to the guy that does fix it. He had a good look said nothing no traces in the exhaust, fuel filter clean etc...he could not see anything worng
even with the carbies which he thought my have settled in after we redid them.
Last week it did sputter on me few times nothing serious but today... sputter/ backfiring then stop... go on the side of the road and start again but
driving very slowly because under 40 mhp it does not do it.
I think I notice it does happen after filling up at the BP and not always but was just onwdering if their fuel could be worng.

If it mainly happens after sustained high-speed running then I would think that perhaps the coil is breaking down, definitely go through and check
your points, ignition wires and coil.

lol thanks for your help guys...it died on me yesterday... but lucky it did! my wheels bearing front one was dead and I think from all I could
remember and symptoms that the timing chain is dead to I can only see that...that will make senses all the issues with gears, backfire sputter
etc...But if it did not go...I would have drive the car with a damaged bearing...and will probably not be here as the towing guy said! cause when i
said to my hubby there is a weird noise and it moves a lot his response was..what do you expect it is an old car!!
Here's the news...I am buying a cheap car snif won;t be driving the fasty for a while and I am going to buy parts after parts and make sure I do it
again like she should be...I nice and classy good looking fastback!!
thanks again for all your help!!!
